Just a note.
“Potato” is a rather derogatory term used for someone with Down Syndrome in case anyone didn’t know. I know it may be unintentional in most cases, but it can be upsetting to some people and I’ve seen it crop up quite a lot lately. Thought I’d mention it.
to further explain, potatoes have 48 chromosomes that are arranged into 24 pairs.
Humans have 46, arranged into 23 pairs.
People with down syndrome have 47 chromosomes, where they have the 23 normal pairs but one chromosome (usually pair 21) got an extra one in fetal development, so theyre likened to potatos based on the fact they are close to a potato.
derogatory or not, some people in video games can be so dumb they seem potato.
I posted on this topic on Twitter a few days ago and tagged Shoe. I ran through my understanding of the shuffle algorithm, which can cause a shuffle like this occasionally based on the info it uses.
I gave a suggestion of how to improve the information it gathers to do the shuffle and therefore get a more even shuffle and he said he would pass it onto the devs.
I still dont know how this happens multiple games in a row though. unless the low level people are jumping out, and new low levels are jumping in with warped xp gain / min from low level matches.
That is a good suggestion on how to improve data gathering Borganism. I thought about that idea myself. The current shuffle seems to not take into account play styles, which I think is kind of important in a team based game. There are combat focused, repair focused, revive/heal focused, support focused, stall focused, and who knows what play styles. It seems to me that unless the algorithm for shuffling takes into account how people play there will always be a greater chance for unbalanced matches because the play styles are not “balanced”.
I’m level 20(ish I think) and I frequently get put with dorks who have no clue what they’re doing. A part of me thinks this a good thing, I don’t just play dirty bomb. Between league, D&D and college, I stay pretty rusty.
At the same time know I’ll never get any decent practice in slaughtering level 9 noobs.
Of course I could play ranked matches and get stuck with level 9 noobs on my team but that’s neither here nor there.
