Let’s not forget these exact “I’m gonna quit because of ___” posts popped up around Sparks, too.
Don't quit playing just because of Phantom
I think I’ve been t-bagged by over 150+ people this weekend to the point of where I just laugh when it happens. This class brings out the worst in people. I know it’s really easy to see a moving phantom, but for some reason in most pubs i can run right pass people and get behind their whole team which if played right is an easy ace for me. The armor is honestly not even needed if you don’t play phantom like an idiot. Instead of activating your cloak and running away from a losing fight I literally activate it take a corner and just stand still. 99% of the time they run right pass me. It’s funny because I’ve caught a few wall hackers this way.
I think the problem with most players is a lot of them have no map awareness and a class like this completely obliterates them so whether he has armor or not the complaining will continue.
I’d rather he be more of a glass cannon than a tank.
110 hp, no armor, but allow me to be completely invisible unless I sprint, jump, or take damage.
It’s not like the Spy in TF2 because he can’t instant kill anything but a Vasilli or lower, everyone else it takes 2 swings minimum.
Kira 90
Vasilli 100
Proxy 90
Aura 80
Sparks 80
RMB with chopper is 106 damage. You may not be able to one shot 110+ hp mercs but you gimp the shit outa them and basically your team mates clean up the mess if you can’t. He doesn’t even need a buff to his invisibility if armor is removed. He’ll be just as good if someone knows how to use him properly. This class should be about good timing instead of brute forcing it. I feel removing the armor would force players to play smarter with him.
Cloak is useless if the enemy can still see you, plus, considering the speed that people can move at in this game due to sprint, a Phantom that has to walk to maintain his advantage means he HAS to play more tactically, more intelligently.
Removing the armor would encourage this, but he’d be entirely worthless at his role since anyone with good eyes should be able to see him. Keep the audible hum, but at least allow walking to make me invisible so I can actually SNEAK behind the enemy’s frontline.

How would he be worthless unless you’re a “melee only” Phantom player? If you’re playing Phantom as melee only you’re not using him to his best. His current cloak lets you easily be ignored and allows you to flank and evade. Removing the armor would not change this. He’d still have access to two of the best guns in the game which every Phantom player should be using extensively.
Phantom, from my perspective, does not need a buff to offset any nerfs he gets. You can still try to melee only if that’s what you want to do in a game that is heavily loved for the gunplay and rewarding people who can aim…but you’re going to get punished for it more often if you rush into groups.

Getting caught out the open and being able to absorb most of their mag and then being able to pull out a kek to decimate them while they’re reloading feels way too good, but way too broken imo. I’ve had a couple enemy phantoms rage at me for shooting them rather than using my katana.
Honestly I feel like the only thing that counters me is another Phantom. Vasilli sensors can be easily avoided and getting behind a rhino is extremely easy(2 RMB= ded). I can absorb a whole proxy mine and if timed correctly I can eat a frag with around 30-40 hp left. Bushwacker turrets don’t see you while cloaked either which is just 2 stabs from behind to disable it.
That’s exactly how I play him. I use the cloak to absorb shots and gain the upper hand and win fights I shouldn’t win. That’s how Phantom is actually broken. It’s a side issue that it also allows players to try and play Chivalry in this game and succeed when they should not. Which is annoying and where Phantom gets the most hate…but it’s not why he’s broke.
Let him be good at flanking by keeping his cloak but not broken in fights or allow him to live when he shouldn’t due to the shield. Let him be good at melee but don’t make him incredibly cheap. That will keep the game on track and not alienate a lot of people while at the same time will still allow Phantom to be useful and effective.
I don’t want to quit. but I am quitting until this is rectified. if it isn’t, then c’est la vie.
Players in this game were already so blind that I got pissed off constantly by things like dying next to them as I duel it out with a guy and they don’t ever notice and help. Now they’re being punished for it. They kind of deserve it.
Agreed, prob why the backlash is so strong. They can’t get away with half assing it anymore.
after playing as phantom and against phantom these are the changes I personally feel should be put in place.
-
Removal of the chopper perk from any card that includes a Katana.
For cards with things other than the katana getting the chopper perk makes sense, but on the katana it’s just too much, the katana does enough damage as it is without it. -
Reduction of invisibility duration and shield.
i could understand knocking off at least a second or 2 from the invisibility as well as reducing the strength of the shield.
tbh though that’s the only problem i see with him o.o, i mean if he’s such a problem get a rhino on your team as it decimates him.
The backlash is strong because people are bad and lack awareness? Could you two be any more condescending.
First of all, saying someone is condescending implies they have some sort of superiority complex and think they are better than you.
I don’t, I never said or thought that, but I do get fed up when people make excuses or call something op because they hate dealing with it.
You know what, I hate dealing with Rhino, Vasili, Aura, and having team mates they have their priorities all wrong. But you know what? I deal with it, especially now that I have a decent grasp on how to play.
There’s no reason none of you can’t do the same, it’s not condescending, it’s more of an expectation. If you play a team based shooter, I would expect you know the basics of team work, player roles, and getting shit done. I don’t expect any less, so when I hear complaints, yea I get annoyed. Cause this isn’t complicated if you’ve come this far and not quit.

The thing is there are players who won’t be able to get on a level that you and I are on. There will be some players who will never be able to have the skills to defeat a death cloud with 190 hp(Pretty sure his cloak is 70hp?) rushing straight towards them. A lot of players will even never learn to aim at a specific spot(head) on that death cloud so it is a bit harsh to tell new players that will never learn on their own to just find a new game, but i know where you’re coming from. You don’t want this game to end up catering to every casual complaint thus turning it into another CoD which I don’t blame you. That happened to a game I played for 5 years. The middle ground that needs to be found with the phantom nerf is one that rewards skilled phantom players, but also doesn’t completely screw over new players. I’m glad they did the “Please play so we can gather data on Phantom double credit weekend”. I know the 30+ hours of playing nothing but Phantom this weekend(no life) helped me see the crazy things you can pull off with him.
So they’re angry because they now have to actually have to try harder?
Instead of running around and not sticking with or contributing to the team? Yes, exactly.
There are plenty of threads/posts stating people’s objection to Phantom are not just about the fact that he is currently OP (and I don’t think anyone really believes that he won’t be slightly tuned down shortly) but that his design is fundamentally bad for the game’s pace/flow.
Even if he was nerfed into the ground he’d still have a detrimental effect on the game.
Most people can actually cope with losing as long as they perceive it to have been a fair fight and clearly Phantom doesn’t leave everyone feeling that way. I know that every new merc and most free rotations bring a wave of crying about OP-ness, as people don’t recognise the fact is that they simply haven’t learnt to adapt to defeat something they haven’t encountered before, but the issues with Phantom are so intrinsic to his design that I don’t think the issues will go away with any amount of tweaking.
Given that a lot of even his most ardent defenders say he is, even in his current state, just a pubstomper with no place in a competitive team, I think he should be removed again for the good of the game.
/my2cents
My only gripe is that he can attack instantly from the cloak. I don’t find that very fair that he always gets the upper hand, and now thanks to more aimpunch it’s even harder.
What if he went fully invisible? But he had no shield and a very load decloak and a small animation before he can attack? That way he works my like the Spy from TF2. Fragile but can do havoc if he gets behind the enemy team.
Before the Phantom we were complaining about the Rhino and the Sparks, but we are still playing this game. The Phantom is just a lone wolf who lose time to hide and backstab.
