I bought the phantom with cash and would be perfectly fine if they remove it from the game . Id rather take a $10 loss than have a great game ruined.
Don't quit playing just because of Phantom
Phantom doesn’t ruin the game. Getting up close to stab someone requires skill, just like sitting in a corner somewhere “sniping” requires skill. It’s simply that the majority of FPS gamers these days prefer to camp and snipe rather than run around and fight in close quarters. That’s the only reason Phantom gets so much hate, because it balances out the snipers.
It’s not the only reason, he’s basically a wild card. You never know what he’s going to do, so people hate that unpredictability.
A skilled Phantom who does more than stab folks is amazing, stealth plants, sneaky gun picks, and so on.
I haven’t quit playing but I have totally quit considering spending any money on this game.

This is true, He is supposed to be unpredictable, However his Shield on the cloak is just rudicilous and the cloak recharge could be toned down a bit too.
This is stupid. I never camp, just started playing Vassili today after appr. 300 hours played and I think Phantom is annoying as hell. You people that don’t want Phantom changed need to stop assuming why people hate him. Accept the fact that he’s bad for the game right now, try to think of ways he could be made better.
Arguing people into having fun doesn’t work, especially when you don’t even listen to them and just assume everyone sucks.
The problem with phantom is he is annoying as fuck and takes zero skill in order to be so annoying. It’s not that he is OP, even though he clearly is. Having a class that takes zero skill in order to piss off everyone he plays against is a bad, bad business model. Just accept it for God’s sake.
We’d accept it if he was the only annoying merc…the fact is other mercs are annoying in their own ways, and some mercs aren’t, it just depends on the player.
Honestly I’ve never been as annoyed with a Phantom as I have been with a Fragger and his cooked nades, or a Rhino sitting on a healing station, or Aura in general. Annoying is based on players, not balance. If that makes sense.

Completely agreed, and honestly, I’d argue it’s unnecessary. They say he had trouble getting into effective range and escaping, well if he had actual cloak, instead of this shadow or barely visible stuff he’d be able to do both and still be counter able, since cloak doesn’t function as a second shield. You spot him, you shoot him, he goes down.
Phantom was already removed from the game once , I think their going to make their cash then remove or major nurf him.
Phantom is a merc first featured in close beta 1. The class had the highest Melee damage. The class during the first portion of CB1 was extremely over powered, later mid CB1 was nerfed too much, making him weak, and later was removed near the end of CB1 for two reasons.
He was too hard to balance
he didn’t contribute to the objective

Well, the cloak shield was supposed to be his teamplay contribution by shielding people who were planting/disarming the C4, but I don’t think SD anticipated people using it so selfishly by rushing into somebody’s face and stabbing them. It was also added to allow the devs to balance Phantom more easily. Back in closed beta, he was balanced by his visibility (and he had sniper rifles…), but now they can balance based on his shield.
And they’re not going to remove Phantom. Why else would he one of the most publicized mercs in a lot of their media, including the E3 “Scrubs” trailer? Phantom needs nerfs, but hopefully SD can playtest him with said tweaks enough to make sure he doesn’t become underpowered.
Come on man, we’ve been over this a million times. I respect your ability to discuss stuff with people who disagree with you without it turning into a flame fest but it seems like we have this same conversation every couple of days haha.
The reason he is, by far, the most annoying merc in the game to a vast majority of its players is simple…he requires way less skill than all the other mercs you mention. Lots of Fraggers out there, very few are any good at cooking and placing nades. Lots of Vassilis out there, very few are good enough to even notice you are playing against them. Lots of Rhinos out there, none are effective or annoying without a healer (and then we are talking about a 2 merc combo being as annoying as a single merc that requires no skill.)
The list goes on. People hate Vassili, but can accept him in the game because it’s rare to run into one skilled enough to effect games. People hate Phantom but CAN’T accept him because he requires no skill with his current spec.
People don’t like being consistently killed in this type of game by players of lesser skill simply because of the merc they are using.
I think having a stealth class in a shooter is nonsense. Back in tribes one there was a stealth option but only for the lightest class and he was one shotted easily because he was only a scout. That makes sense. A stealthed tank that one shots almost anyone is just a gimmick make money before they nurf him and I’m sure they will make their money. I bought phantom but rarely play him because it’s as rediculos as aim bot might as well be cheating.

You’re honestly telling me classes like Aura take skill? To just plop down a station and sit on it? Or Rhino? How about Fragger, how hard is it to cook a nade and throw it just before someone comes around a corner? Or hell even Sawbonez, how hard is it to revive people and throw down packs?
You could argue that all day long and I’d still say he’s no more annoying than any other merc. And on top of that, each class is easy to pick up and use, and each one has their own aspects that make them hard to master against smarter players.
He has his quirks but the vast majority of the time I die to him personally, is if I am already lit, or if I was outnumbered. Any other time I have no issues with Phantom. So I think people need to stop assuming circumstances are the same for everyone else.
I understand why he frustrates people, and I already said it a thousand times before, the issue is the shield, it offers zero counter play. And if he has trouble getting into range without it well Splash simply needs to pick a poison and choose what is better for the game. A guy who can fully cloak but easy to take down when he’s spotted, or a guy who basically has a second health bar but easier to spot, meaning he’s useless in organized play where people can see him coming from a good distance.
It’s obvious the class is unballanced or you wouldn’t want to play it. Like I said before it’s a sales gimmick to put an op class out there everyone buys it then it’s nurfed-ballanced once they make their money so don’t get too used to the phantom it’s short lived glory no doubt. Their not going to sacrifice their player base for one class it will be fixed. My guess is with in two weeks max everyone that’s going to buy it will have bought it and then the nurf will come.
Even if he wasn’t as strong I’d still play him and figure him out, because I love stealth classes. My channel on youtube more than proves that.
There won’t be a massive Phantom nerf. I’m sure the tweaks to Phantom that will be released will center around his cloak shield and possibly it’s cooldown.
Once the class is balanced I might play it more but for balance it will have to become extremely weak maby 80 hp or so to allow for stealth in a shooter. I think it needs to be an objective and support type class with range not hack and slash.
She’s called Proxy
Phantom will be a close range Vasilli, there’s no getting around that.
And he can still be useful to the team with cloak, stealth plants and defuses happen pretty often.
Even if it stays close range it needs no more than 80 hp and no shielding to be balanced.
Um, yes he does, because otherwise he’ll get dropped like a fly the moment he tries to do anything.
