Don't like Dockyard; am I alone?

The blockout version was better than what has been released. The new “Dockyard” is a new map. A lot of things have been removed and annoying invisible walls thrown everywhere. Some areas have been narrowed down too much and flanking routes or paths lead to nothing. The last objective is hell for attackers and it has no useful routes and very few jumps. It feels like a Call of Duty map to be honest. So much spent on aesthetics, but the actual gameplay is bland.

There’s tons of objects and vertical elements that are completely useless because of invisible walls. I loved the blockout version of the map and was hoping for some simple tweaks, like adding cover and possible altering a few routes slightly. However, this map feels too small and narrow. Also feels very defender-sided. It looks good though.

EDIT: **My biggest gripe with Dockyard is the INVISIBLE WALLS! There’s so many of them, it’s terrible. It really ruins the flow of the map and the game itself. Although the other maps are plagued with this as well, they’re not nearly as bad. Dockyard has so many areas that either have an invisible wall or objects blocking what could otherwise be a useful trick jump, spot, or route. It feels 100% like Call of Duty. You can’t jump on anything or access most areas. It’s all for looks and I really wish this would be changed. I’m sure this is something others will agree on! **

My hope was for another map similar to Dome, but added trickjumps and such. The blockout version had more jumps and less invisible walls. RIP 2016 Dockyard.

I know I have the unpopular opinion here

Greatyard is great in organized play.

Haven’t gotten into a match on Dockyard yet, but from what I’ve heard I imagine I will be disappointed. Dome is my personal favorite map because of the amount of secondary objectives that actually affect the outcome of the match slightly and because of the amount of trickjumps. I hate the closed off maps with little to no trick jumps that are useful cough cough Chapel cough cough

I really do not understand the big deal about Chapel, it’s my least favorite map by far.

Personally I like Dockyard, but haven’t played enough of it to really say too much about it balance-wise. It certainly is very different compared to the original Dockyard… the 2nd half of the map anyway. It looks great and its pretty funny destroying people from all the flank routes available.

If I had to decide based off of what I have played so far, I’d say the map is good, but the last objective can be a bit rough to hold as Attackers.

I agree. That was the other thing, I think Dockyard is missing a secondary objective or two? Maybe it’s just me. I also miss being able to jump over the wall of the generator from the defenders side right after the bridge I think. Now if you repair the generator, there’s no way to flank. The map just looks and feels completely different, and not for the better in my opinion.

As for Chapel, I only like it because it’s a bit more open and chaotic than other maps when played with decent people on both teams. It’s a fun fire support map mostly and easy to rack up a lot of points. I do wish it had more jumps and maybe some more options when approaching some areas. For example, there’s narrow chokepoints that defenders can easily stop the attackers at. Like the middle area with the two turrets when escorting the EV or the final stretch for the ev.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel more potential in the current maps than what’s being utilized. Granted, I’m still the unpopular opinion and I’m probably just wishing for a different game than what’s being developed. Don’t get me wrong though, I love Dirty Bomb and it will forever be my favorite game <3

Is it me or DB’s more complex maps are unpopular?

I really like multiple routes. Of course it’s easy to get lost first few matches, but the more played the better.

(Szakalot) #7

too soon to have an opinion but blockout dockyard was trash. Snipe fiesta with a single choke and an impossible final push of ev into enemy spawn with crossfires from ALL sides.

(Eox) #8

I tried the map only once. It was of course a clusterfuck since nobody is used to the map yet, but the map was overall pleasent. The first two objectives went pretty smoothly. Third objective is probably a bit too defender sided. I got really happy to see that they got rid of the big, straight line bridge part that appeared in the non-textured version : it was a Sniper shitfest. The map has probably too much flanking routes as well, especially at 3rd obj.

Overall I’m kinda satisfied about the few stuff I tested. Gotta try more tho.

Only played two full matches so far but I’m glad it feels and plays like a smaller map than the overview would suggest. Very strong sniping positions on defense that will make counter sniper on attack a necessity. Not completely opposed to this but time will tell. Overall, lots of fun so far

Game does seem to chug a bit in the final section of the map. Lots of stutters during firefights and I would guess players are experiencing frame drops there as well. Issue is worst for me on that section of Dockyard but my game stutters on other maps too. Would like to see an exit added to the left most route for attackers through the window grill. It’s a strong position to overlook a left side plant but the single exit is close to defenders’ spawn and that side seems easier for defenders to lock down overall.

Played it with people who actually have brains, some of the most fun I’ve had in ages. Definitely a map that plays better when your team aren’t potatoes. Last needs some work sure but everything else plays really nicely.

You are not alone.

Seems that way…I enjoy Dome…almost every time someone votes for dome as the map I see someone complain about how it sucks and they don’t like it.

(doxjq) #13

I’ve only managed to play it once so I can’t really say, and that one game was a disaster because even after spending 3 minutes not playing on purpose the enemy team still didn’t get past the first objective so that was really the only part I got to play.

But it did feel weird compared to the original beta. It almost felt like it had been scaled down. Everything felt claustrophobic and narrow. But it’s too early for me to say.

Edit: I should also note I played like 12 games yesterday, and despite wanting to play Dockyard it only came up in the vote screen once. I swear it’s almost never there.

(doxjq) #14

So I’m in an asian server now trying to play it again, we’re onto our 4th game, and I still haven’t seen Dockyard come up once in the menu when we’re voting for a map.

Seriously what gives

Edit: 5 maps and didn’t get it, then on 6th map it still wasn’t there again so I just left.

That’s been an issue I’ve noticed. It doesn’t seem to happen in every server though. But I was in a server with a friend and he was telling me how he had yet to play Dockyard because every server he hopped into, the map didn’t appear. After 3 or 4 games with him, it finally appeared (but some other maps had already appeared multiple times. No idea why it’s been doing this.

(Ohsnapkline) #16

I just think the spawn points need a lot of tweaking just before the last objective. I strongly feel that dockyard, in its current state is very attacker focused, with the right setup it feels very easy to bunker down as attacker before the last objective.

sniper feels strong but no stronger than any other map because I think they actually did a solid job on the alternative routes and potential to flank on this map

(doxjq) #17

Managed to play a game on it finally. Hard to say from first impressions but to me it feels incredibly defender friendly on the first and last objectives. Sure there are plenty of flanking routes, but generally speaking the defenders have the higher ground and all choke points are so narrow it’s easy to hold them down.

So first impressions, meh. Need to play more games on it but not it feels very cluster fudged to me. I think it’s going to be another Dome, from a competitive stand point.

More so for public play, at least for me personally (as you obviously can’t “ban” a map from public play, but Dockyard will definitely be a map that I will avoid). The “cluster fudge” within the narrow routes is insane when taken into a 7v7/8v8 environment. This and the fact that when pushing the final objective as an attacker, you are often caught in a 3-4 way crossfire, as there are so many random passages that are unnecessary.

(SaulWolfden) #19

To me, it feels very defender biased from the matches I’ve played so far. It’s kind of annoying to get into servers that are actually running the map near the beginning of a match. The defenders won 2 out of the 3 matches. I won as attackers in one round, but the match wasn’t even remotely balanced. It’s most notably the final objective that’s a problem. There is two pathways, both are funnels that are easy to defend.

(doxjq) #20

Agreed @SaulWolfden.

Almost everyone I know has said the same thing about the last objective, and 2 of them made the comment “who even play tests these maps and thinks this was a good idea.”

I agree with them.
