Dome Rework

(Faraleth) #1

Well, here’s my idea for a Dome rework. You might want to see the full-size image to properly see everything, so click here for that.

I think it stream-lines a map a lot and adds a LOT of needed direction, without removing too many of the interesting paths or compromising choice of route.

I have no idea. But It seems to me rework is more simple than dome.

(CCP115) #3

What sort of time do you have on your hands? Damn.

I can’t say much beyond the first point, because the maps is not at all very memorable past there, but you did streamline the first objective pretty well. Whether or not it plays well? We may never know.

(SereneFlight) #4

Yup. Exactly what people would need in pubs… hell, I’ve even seen people humping the gates instead of going around or arming c4.

(SirSwag) #5

Something needs to happen with Dome. I’ve never seen an attacking side win.

(Xan) #6

i like dome as it is though, tons of flanking route

(Samniss_Arandeen) #7

Signage and marking of objectives would go a long way.

(Faraleth) #8

@Samniss_Arandeen I updated it now!

(Samniss_Arandeen) #9

I meant adding literal signs to the actual map to play on so we don’t lose our way, but that works too.

(Faraleth) #10

@Samniss_Arandeen Oh, haha! Good point - I like how TF2 did their maps, it had very clear indication on where to go even if you hadn’t played the map before, you were unlikely to get lost.

Not just TF2, I recall Counter Strike having clear markings of where everything was.

(CCP115) #12

@Faraleth Can I ask what you do for a living/plan to do for a living?

(Faraleth) #13

@CCP115 You sure can. I’m in University, studying video game level design. lol

That fits in with this post a scary amount. I didn’t even know Universities offered courses like that. Where are you aiming to work at after you leave? Good old SD?

(Faraleth) #15

Technically the course I am doing is called “Games Design for Industry”, but I’m in my final year and I get to choose a ‘specialism’, and my specialism is level design :stuck_out_tongue:

Sadly the games industry is one of the hardest places to keep a permanent job (average is about 2 years - that’s a game dev cycle), so I gotta keep my options open, but… I have a good idea on what I’ll be doing. ^.^

(KINE) #16

what is Dome’s switchlevel name? I used Dome and it crashes the game

Map6 if I recall.

Good job man, I like that you removed many useless maze-areas that serve very little purpose for the dynamic of the match. Let’s hope Nexon/SD get inspiration from your idea to rework the map and why not, propose folks to BETA it in order to measure some stats with their super tool of awesomeness.

(bontsa) #19

I’m unable to tell from the picture: is one of the MGs removed from 1st objective area? Is only route from that side to the delivery now from that building which corner has been blown off? If so, it looks little bit too streamlined then, I think simply making delivery on-ground like you suggested in other thread and keeping the “maze” will give Defenders much harder time to hold all the routes possible to get to the delivery.

Pardon me for not providing screenshot to imply what I mean, but maybe you could offer us some too to show a little more specifically what are these changes meaning with in-game screencaps @Faraleth . Like you did with the other Dome rework thread, that pic was nice and informative about the delivery area.

yes, I really hate playing on Dome right now. 2nd and 3rd stage of Dome map is just terrible which is why I stopped playing.
