Does this game have true competitive (pro) potential?
No, I think it needs decent value before I put money into it, considering I spent money on HAWKEN, Loadout, Tribes Ascend, and sadly was forced to watch those games die.

And this is F2P remember? I can unlock mercs with credits, I don’t need (or want) to spend money. And just to get in there before you call me ‘tight’, I can afford it (as mentioned earlier), I just choose not to.

Why do you feel this game is so awesome that I should spend real money on it, when it has such a very limited future?

As for being a masochist, yes, I love a good spanking same as the rest of us, but 262 hours is nothing compared to what I could have played. I only play occasionally these days, and more often that is just to do my dailies/missions.

If a game helped me accrue 260+ hours of gameplay then I’d think I got awesome value, half the time I buy something small for a f2p game I’ve played for over 50hrs just as a thank you gesture towards the devs.

I don’t think I said anywhere at all that I think this game is so awesome, but you definitely got more play time and entertainment than from more than a few premium games you’ve bought I bet. My point is, you pay full retail and play a game for 40 - 50hrs and think that was worth it, you play DB for 262 and don’t think its worth it, your logic is mind boggling… and you can have money and still be tight, probably why you have money.

They fuck’d up Brink and according to wikipedia, there’s 75 people in SD.
There’s much deeper politics at play with regards to Brink so there’s no point, not saying it wasn’t a failure but there’s more to it.

75 people work at SD, 75 people don’t work on DB

I just realized that your views stem from the belief that playing competitively is centered on having fun. We shall now agree to disagree and move on.

I don’t think so, this new version of UT is the first one since UT99 that feels right to me, without being a bunch of midgets flying around like UT2k4 or hideously gritty dirt-looking graphics and tons of design issues like UT3.

You don’t play to have fun? o_O

The most fun I ever had were clan games where we had proper team work, voice comms, strategies, plays and a plan the came together… the thrill of organised play combined with a game we enjoyed was a matric fuck-ton of fun, and thats why we played it!

I really wonder…

AFAIK this is the guy running Nexon XP, who are publishing this game. Inspiring character.

ARE THE KITCHEN AND RESTAURANT IN SYNC?

Nexon are worth billions, and Nexon XP are a part of that (but not much). There’s obviously money there for development, but not much of it is going to DB. You look at their other games, and you see they rely on thousands and thousands of micro-transactions and online communities of small kids, bored housewives and geeks. Competitive FPS is a different beast.

This goes some way to explain the emphasis on ‘social media communication’ in DB. Like late 20s early 30s fps gamers give a damn about that shit. Dem streams and facebook posts! Fan art comps for an unreleased game! Check us out on the Twitter! Cosplay! Yum!

FPS game lore lol

Most fps games pull from real life history to do that for them. CS Terrorist vs Counter Terrorist,
Wolfenstein used WWII

Some of the more futuristic games such as UT and Quake, while having a lore, do not make it central to the gameplay. Most FPS players couldn’t even tell you the lore behind UT.

None of these titles needed to incorporate lore into their game play because most players only cared whether or not the gameplay sucked. It was the icing not the cake.

For those that absolutely played TF2 to death, what is the lore behind TF2? If you can’t tell me then that proves my point

Sadly, I think @avidCow may be right. Nexon’s attempt to hype parts of this game completely misses its target audience, as seen with everyone’s response to the faction hype.

Probably the biggest difference between the two: Blizzard didn’t fuck up.
Hearthstone community would like a word with you

You appear to confuse “playing a competitive game” and “competitively playing a game”. The first being what almost everyone does, the latter being a career.

Even the middle ground, playing in a league or tournament with the aim of doing well, is far more akin to work than fun.

Certainly, it is more comfortable than “real work”, but enjoyment is not the goal.

Anyway, a moot point to debate here since DB is clearly going down another route.
