Does Dirty Bomb Even Have a Balancing System?

(Dr_Plantboss) #1

So, the other day I joined a lobby to play Dirty Bomb. The lobby was full of players (7v7), so nobody left or joined. Well, the teams got queued up, and then of course, the match started. Well, I went to the menu to check my score and noticed that the teamlists looked VERY imbalanced*. These were the teams:

OURS (Jackal) | Enemy (CDA)
12|47
11|34
8 |23
7 |13
7 |10
5|6
1|4

My question is: because nobody joined or left after the teams were made, does Dirty Bomb even HAVE a balancing system? Because this isn’t the first time this has happened either. Developers, speak up or answer for your crimes!**

*Yes, I know levels aren’t everything
Having to actually play your broken-a game

No it doesn’t, finding a well balanced game is RNG in itself.

(nokiII) #3

Yes it does and it doesn’t use levels as a base because that would be stupid.

Balancing the teams in a lobby is not based on levels whatsoever, it’s done based on everyone’s performance in their last X matches (I think it’s 25 but I’m not 100% on that). Basically everyone has a “hidden” rating that is used, would probably cause less people to freak out and assume stuff if it was made public…

Of course any lobby team distribution logic can’t address people leaving/joining mid-match which is effectively impossible to balance: low-skill player leaves and gets replaced by a demi-god, team’s overall skill level is now significantly higher, ain’t nothing the game can do to re-balance that on the fly…

so that’s why we will have new match making system. Period

Yes, and that’s why I stressed that nobody left or joined. And it wasn’t a very balanced match either (attackers got stomped).

Djiesse pretty much covered how the system works for pubs. Balancing only happens on the server with the players connected so it doesn’t have a lot to work with. One overly skilled player can upset the balance in a match or a couple of incredibly low skilled players on the same time can do the same thing. Players refusing to run needed classes also hurts.

Balancing by levels, outside of the low levels who only have a few hours into the game, isn’t a good solution due to pretty obvious issues with player skill not correlating directly with time spent playing. One person playing for 400 hours pubbing with music blasting and mostly just trying to pass time could easily be stomped by a more serious player with only 10 hours experience who is trying to get better quickly.

There is a casual MM system being developed right now that will have players queue up and they are placed with/against other players of similar skill. That will help fix some of the skill discrepancies in matches but it will probably only mildlytouch “balance”. Balance is kind of an illusion as nothing is ever perfectly balanced. Teams of professionals in organized play will still be the victors or the losers of blow-outs despite virtually everything in the game being even. It just happens. But hopefully with the new casual MM matches won’t start out with giant skill mismatches and only get worse as players leave/join which is common now.

I’m a moderately serious CS:GO player and even though that game has fantastic skill rankings, there are still matches where it is imbalanced. Just as Amerika said, no game can ever be fully balanced. There will always be players who try starting a new account so they can dominate low level servers or players who are playing on their friend’s account etc. I honestly don’t think DB is as imbalanced as it appears on the forums. The majority of games are relatively balanced level-wise. The only thing that ruins it is the 84 Vasalines in the back, or medics who play like they’re a freaking Fragger. It’s all about how much your team cares about winning imo.

If I ever unlock a sig on this forum, this is going to be it.

(straightforwardMacadamia) #10

Seems balanced to me.

(Dr_Plantboss) #11

How many in-game hours do you have?

(The_N00Ba) #12

I have been in many matches where the game was stacked by either the system or by the players themselves. usually when that happens I have found it takes several games for the system to start separating the players out better. Assuming the players don’t stack it again of course. So it does “balance” “better” eventually. You just got to tough it out I have found.

Here we go, another balance issue thread while SD is working on new system and announced.

(Dr_Plantboss) #14

That was over 2 months ago. Yes, I know they are working on it. My question was not “Is Dirty Bomb getting a new balancing system?” it was “Does Dirty Bomb actually have a balancing system now, or does it randomly pick teams?”

It does and it works OK considering all the external and internal constraints. It can be seen by comparing balance between Objective and Stopwatch - the former is noticeably better balanced than the latter.

(AlphaUT) #16

@Dr_Plantboss Let me make it clear for you.

First, is this the first thread that complains about the balance issue ? Obv not.

Second, Does SD knows this issue already since long ago? Yes.

Third, is SD now trying to fix this issue now? Yes

Fourth, Did the information of they will use new matching making system helps you to stop opening another thread ? No

Fifth, does this thread is going to make another new match making system just because the one they are working is not even in the game yet (im talking about actual in the game, not test) and some of the players keep complaing about the old system? No

Hence, this thread is actually pointless and for me, this thread is as same as the thread that talks about a hacker who is actually just a pro and those noobs dont care about the fact. Keep crying whenever the meet a pro. Repeating the same thing all again without giving any real help. Pointless.

In the end, I can’t quote when im using cellphone, and I reported already long ago, guess what, I am not going to open another thread even though it is a bug, and I dont think they are really working on it. Although it is not a big deal. I wil just say if I see any new thread about balance issue, I am sure that I will say the same thing as what I say here.

(Dr_Plantboss) #17

@AlphaUT If you don’t want to comment or read a thread, then don’t comment or read the thread. I not like I threatened you until you read my thread or posted a comment. F*** off, I don’t need your comments, as they are not even helpful to the thread.

As for reporting me, maybe I could report you?..

(AlphaUT) #18

@Dr_Plantboss so now you are mad, I see. BTW, I dont find any reason to report you, so…I don’t even know how you get that base on.

Once again, it is pointless for me when a thread talks about balance issue again after we already know there will be a new system soon. Keep struggling on the old system. What is the point?

(Dr_Plantboss) #19

… and I reported already long ago,…
That’s how I get that base on.

(AlphaUT) #20

@Dr_Plantboss I am wondering if u read that paragraph correctly, and i am not so sure if u can see someone reported u or not, at least, I can on my cellphone or on the PC.

Like, there will appear 1 Flag

And to make myself even more clear, this is nothing personal but something to do witb the topic only.
