Does Brink have binocs?

(CVIChEK) #1

I know, pretty silly question, but I always missed my binocs when playing any other shooter. I don’t know, it just makes it a little fun, not to mention servers with Binoc Wars were epic.

Brink is as far as I’m aware basically all close quarters so I can’t see much use for binoculars but I could be wrong.

(Fireseed) #3

Indeed, nothing smiliar is known. The most maps a urban combat, so no far line of sight - I think you need no binocs

btw: you could use your weapon scope as binoculars

(madoule) #4

here’s a hack for the missing binocs:

(H0RSE) #5

The Operative can spot mines and enemy operatives and one of his abilities is a picture of binoculars (which is probably the spot ability) I think that is the extent of binoculars.

(Pytox) #6

Why need binoculars in Brink? They’re so hard to use

(Apples) #7

I haz trinocz!

(Nail) #8

me too

(Mad Hatter) #9

I wanna dual wield telescopes.

(Auzner) #10

If binoculars can be toggled very quickly then potentially a script could make any weapon scoped.

(Cankor) #11

So we are back to hidden mines like in W:ET?

That pic is classic!

they’re not much good if visable, or were QW’s visible ?

(DarkangelUK) #14

QW’s were visible, just not very easy to see unless you were looking for them. Also one of the many grenade sponges in the game, there was no way to get rid of that mine except with a nade which was annoying, and frustrating if you had none left. Most of the time you had to resort to a suicide run and hope you survived and didn’t take too much damage.

(Nail) #15

visable mines, not my cuppa, the whole point of mines is they’re hidden

(DarkangelUK) #16

The games had different mines, W:ET were proper ground mines meant to be hidden in dirt, QW’s were trip mines that were planted on walls, floors, doorways etc. Given that the Ark is all metal, trip mines are the only possibility where W:ET had a lot of grass and dirt areas.

if you can’t hide a mine, it’s effectiveness is cut in half, imo
not bury, but hide

Well, that was part of the challenge, hide them were you didn’t see them until it was too late. You have to be creative, if you just put them where people travel they tend just to get blown up with nades. Put them where people have to travel, and are also getting shot at and running for cover … now you have people dying from them.

Also, there were two types, prox mines which blow up when you are close, and sometimes only damage you 9or if you get around a corner before they go off no damage at all) and trip mines which have a little laser light coming out of them (which you can see), if you cross it you are instantly dead.

Trip mines you can sue to block doors. While they can still be blwon up with a nade they slow down the enemy and alert you to their presence. So they are good for guarding back ways in since when they go off you (the engy who placed the mine) know someone is back there.

I actually like them better than the W:ET version myself.

edit: the other thing is you have to put them whetre they don’t kill your own guys when the random nade comes flying in. At the very least you warn your team mates where you’ve put them: “hey guys, objective is mined, don’t chase anybody too close to it”. So there’s a whole skill set required to use them effectivly.

(Nail) #19

must play it soon, too bad my LAN buddies didn’t like it

(Cankor) #20

There’s still people playing, usually at least 1-3 servers full in NA. It’s sometimes hard to get on though because it seems like they are either completely full or completely empty.

It’s all I play while I wait for Brink.
