Does anyone have any tips on creating map, like orginization with scripts and map, like how big of a box do most mappers start out with or do they mostly use easygen?.. this came to me when i looked at Blockbuster’s screenshots on his map, since the editor hasn’t been out very long, hes made that fairly quick, this suprises me cause i cant create that much stuff in a short amount of time, any tips? :blah:

er i dont think many ppl start out with a large box and place thing inside - 1 cause from the starts its hard to say how big map will become - a lot of time map changes design mid way thru

2 editing items while they are in a lrge box is a hassle when lookying thru x y + z views

3 if u making a terrain then that gives u a rough area size - but my map is larger than my terrain - i just add brushes to extend land

I suggest planning the map out on paper/whiteboard/knapkin first and then creating a very rough looking map from big brushes. Sort of like how you would create a painting, draw out the overall idea in pencil lines and then fill in the detail/colour later on. Pre-mapping planning is the key.

if your going to make a building of something like that, is much easier to make it in a smaller map (testmap)

when you finished it you just import it into your terrain map.

just a smal tip :fiesta:

i need some more tips, one of my problems is getting an object i have made, the right size in the game, like it could be too small or too big and may not fit with the other objects around, does anyone have any tips on creating objects at a good size?

Good little tip:

To get scale of object - so you dont have chairs the sides of cars or doors the size of rabbits

  1. Textures have got scale on them - so to make a propper size door - make a brush and apply a door texture so it fits exactly (128*64) units face on

  2. Import a few models - lamps, vehicles - i imported the flat bed truck model when making a road in a village map to make sure road was wide enough for realistic traffic

  3. buid, compile, build, compile + often

though it may take a bit of extra time this will work out errors, problems that leaving them all to the end

I usually start to make a map on a piece of paper, set out objectivs and where objects will be. Then I find some reference and drawing some concept art before I start to build it.

After making basic I let someone test it before adding details and give it that et feeling
