Do you think a public demo/beta pre-release might of helped public opinion?

(Petrolbomb_Tom) #1

Do you think a public beta/demo pre-launch would have helped the general public (for example) understand the game mechanics* or maybe bug test the game* or would have hindered sales* in some ways?

*Please note these are not my feeling about the game just examples.

(iezza) #2

No. you either are a fanatic for brink or your not getting it IMHO. no one will be “meh il get it” if youve heard of it youre in love.

(At the Gates) #3

Wouldnt have helped. There will always be people hating.

(tokamak) #4

A demo showing the game to it’s fullest extend would be 20% of the game, that’s a lot.

(jazevec) #5

Are we talking about a beta, or a demo ? I’m confused.

(SockDog) #6

Wouldn’t have helped at all, the issue is selling the concept which needed to be done in every interview and showing.

(Mattc0m) #7

You guys remember ETQW? Ended up being a terrible idea.

(trigg3r) #8

ok, can someone pls tell me where all of the negatives review are? 'cause everyone keeps talking about it but i’ve only seen that one with the guy complaining about the guns being too weak

(ju5t_bl4z3) #9

Of course!! This is exactly what I had said that not having demos or betas can [sometimes] end up hurting a game on release day.

It’s not like this is Brink 3 and people know what to expect like COD or Battlefield [for example].

But having played this game @ the EuroGamer Expo I think it’ll do well.

petrolbomb… that name pops up pretty often recently. almost everytime with some negative stuff or at least suggesting negative stuff. you’re like fox news, man. at least you reflect my impression of this propaganda monster.

so, thats that.

i also disagree with your statement. there is not a lot of negative feedback. theres this one topic here about that guy from the bethesda forums who will rather wait for a game called “la noire” than start to learn brink. all pc gamers should start giggling when reading this… probably even the console players with taste, i dont know. that “la noire” rings no bells.

and in general i think most people here are old and/or intellegent enough to make up their own mind. most of the people read more than one review and measure their decision on more information than just that one random guy from another forum.

whoops. totally forgot about the topic.

i think that a demo might help some people deciding to buy the game. on the other hand it also can shake of potential buyers if they are disapointed by the demo.

So do I to be honest ( a last minute amendment to the tile and post which I admit was not well thought through or justified)…maybe a Mod could amend the title for me?

(Grimhound) #12

By your logic: A demo of one level would be 20% of the game. So the game only ships with 5 levels.

(Dormamu) #13

I see some soft balls thrown to keep za noobs (including me) disoriented until the next X360/PS3 big game is out.
The real question is not: Do you think a public demo/beta pre-release might of helped public opinion?
The real question is: Why they are trying so hard to make me not play Brink?

(otirruborez) #14

if the game wasn’t good a demo could hurt sales. should only have a demo when you know your game is good.

(Je T´aime) #15

Betas kill the hype, and kill the sales, last example of this was maybe crysis2 demo, it made me rage quit because i could not register my account and play it that really put me off.

(Jess Alon) #16

I played the crap out of the demo on XBL. But yeah I know ETQW is nothing like the original full PC version.

(Nail) #17

Matt means the public beta, not the demo

(EnderWiggin.DA.) #18

I’m not really sure what some of you guys are going on about with all of the negativity and lack of marketing. On the gaming news sites I hang out on, the Brink hype is still very high except for people that only play SP or don’t play FPS games. Granted, the sites I like do cater to the PC crowd and W:ET is remembered with much fondness. People are really hoping Brink is a return to the digital crack that was ET. From what I have seen with the game, SD is succeeding.

You remember RTCW? MP_Beach.

Great Game, Great Multiplayer, Great Map. Had everyone hanging for the full release.
