Do you prefer the new or old Dockyard judging by the videos?

Personally, I prefer the old one much more than the new one. The videos showed a lot, and I don’t like what I’m seeing. The map seems a bit too narrowed down. The vertical elements are there, but kinda aren’t (last part of the map seems very different from the original). Don’t get me wrong, the new map is gorgeous, but it’s non-functional. There’s pretty graphics, but it appears to be similar to say, Call of Duty. The maps look nice, but many of the areas, vantage points, or possible trick jumps don’t appear to be available. I’m seeing a lot of blocked off areas and other spots that are just screaming “invisible wall.”

I loved the version of the map we all played back in February of 2016. I’d like to see that map make a return, even if it’s just in its bland form.

Dockyard

While the video(s) made by shoe is more sided for the offensive team, it’s not really difficult for the defending team to maintain their advantage.

I’m just wondering if Dockyard will be as suitable for ranked game knowing that the map is big and far too diverse for a 5v5. A 6v6 DBN type may work but I can’t tell for now.

i expect same hate as for dome because apparently ppl here like maps as linear as possible.

(TheStrangerous) #5

Old one had that long passageway in the center, giving the attackers very rough time.

I need to play that map first before expressing my opinion.

here like who?

(everlovestruck) #8

I love how the finished version looks, but the blockout version felt SO MUCH different and intriguing. Still hyped though

Dome is very much the least played map (rarely even gets a single vote).
While this doesn’t necessarily mean that people like linear maps, it just means that most people prefer playing the other maps to Dome, but one thing doesn’t really mean the other.

People might prefer more complex maps, but just dislike Dome.

The fact that Dockyard is more complex worries me. Players may be turned off by the design, resulting in Dockyard getting wasted, just like Dome.

I love complex maps myself, just to be clear. Even like Dome myself.

I’m sure after playing it, my opinion might change… However, Gallery suffered a similar fate. After its full release, a lot of different spots in the map were changed and either blocked off by debris or an invisible wall. I’m just judging Dockyard based on the videos right now.

I really loved the blockout stage of the map. The “verticality” was awesome. It was a pleasant change to the same old linear maps. The first thing I noticed in the videos was something I hoped they weren’t going to do, remove all of the paths and various areas on the map. They narrowed it down, in my opinion, too much. Sure, some areas could have used a little balancing, but it just appears overdone.

Ah well, I still have hopes for community-made maps eventually! Anything new is nice though.

I can’t judge until I’ve played it, but I did play the old Dockyard, and it certainly had outstanding issues.

However, I liked the “aesthetic,” if you can call it that, of the old one. There weren’t any textures, but the very orange afternoon lighting reminded me of the Africa campaign in CoD2, and I was nostalgia tripping the whole time. The new Dockyard looks too similar to the other maps. I suppose that’s what you get when you confine your environments to one specific city, even one as diverse as London.

I don’t know anything about this"Old Dickyard" but from the previews, I really do like it. It solved a few of Dome’s issues, and I love the look and atmosphere of the place. Still, I am an infant player, so my impression is much more naive than the veterans’ here. Also I do wish that they’d make another night time map. Chapel had every bit of lighting gave of light, essential for spotting enemies, and also made you feel sort of safe and warm, amidst the cild night and blazing hot lead flying across your head.

(Your worst knifemare.) #14

I’ve never played old dockyard but this maps design looks intresting and fun.

(Dawnlazy) #15

Old Dockyard had everything in place to become a snipefest with huge sightlines where falloff could make all other guns very weak.

(blufflord) #16

the fact that there is a new map to play on is good enough for me. I really cant see new dockyard being THAT bad. seems okay at the moment

(bushyg) #17

Glad the huge sniper run is gone, so I’ll say the new one. But the last section looks terrible now, though. Looks nothing like the reworked preview we got a few months ago and I’m starting to wonder how many reiterations the last section underwent before one was decided on.

(LifeupOmega) #18

Still worried it’ll be far too large and with too many angles to cover for 5v5 to work well.

(ImSploosh) #19

This is what needed some balancing- give every gun a similar advantage overall. Other than shotguns of course…

That’s one of my main concerns. The last section looks very linear and boring in my opinion. I liked the original version, but I suppose it may be different once we play it!

My other major concern is the large amount of blocked areas, or what looks blocked. For example, I saw some scaffolding in one of the Dockyard videos, at the beginning of the EV’s long stretch I think; it had the potential to be a turret spot, phantom ambush spot, or even just a way to surprise attackers pushing the EV. However, it seemed completely blocked off for whatever reason? I don’t like the idea of a linear map with decorations, it’s just very boring and CoD-like.

Hopefully everything I’m saying is wrong and the map plays much differently. Judging a book by its cover though, I’m seeing a lot of missed opportunities to add some diversity to the map design. Either that or areas that were nicely utilized in the beginning are now obsolete.

(Sorotia) #20

Yeah…the catwalk above it and everything…where so many games would stall there.
