In every other match there is someone who complains about shotguns being OP. I’m curious as to what the community really thinks and not just frustrated players who keep getting rekt by bunny Proxies because they don’t know how to deal.
Do Shotguns Need Nerfing?
ah…the annual shotgun too OP pls nerf thread
@Eox pls move this to Weapons board
Actually I was pretty surprised when I tried shotgun here cuz… you can’t stop the reload sequence like in CS,
so you can’t actually shoot 1 shot, reload 1 shot ,shoot 1 shot ,reload 1 shot and so on, this actually makes shotguns pretty weak cuz you are pretty vulnerable while reloading those
Shotguns aren’t OP, they’re a weapon with a niche, and they fill it well. I don’t find them particularly fun to play with, but dropping a pesky Aura or Sparks with a chest full of buckshot is pretty fun. It’s not as much fun to be on the receiving end, thus the constant complaints. They aren’t tracking weapons, which is what I really enjoy about DB: the insistence on continual aim on a target, rather than timing single shots that do inordinate amounts of damage, at least for most weapons.
I don’t think they need changes. I would like them to have a larger horizontal spread pattern to be able to hit two targets at once easier, but I can live without it.
i dont think theyre op as such, just how come these lv 5 proxys hit me from half way across the map? nerf the range and ill be good.
Every now and then you see a ridiculous shot and how it killed you is beyond comprehension. But by and large, shotguns can always be countered by brainpower because their limitations are so prominent.
I find them annoying, and I’d like to see a range reduction on some.
Yes, they’re not hard to counter, but a lot of kills with them seem pretty cheap.
I don’t understand people talking about getting killed from across the map with shotguns.
They already implemented damage reduction based on distance. If I recall correctly, the damage reduction can fall all the way down to 1 damage per pellet. (which is much lower than the old 5 damage per pellet min cap)
If you got killed across the map then you either had like no health left, or you still let them hit you with the shotgun over and over again… or it wasn’t really across the map.
Just to clarify, I think they’re fine. (incase you can’t tell from the options) Just curious as to other people’s opinions on the subject.
Shotguns aren’t fine, but they don’t need nerfing. They’re REALLY inconsistent. Sometimes I get killed from 1 shot and other times I’ll shoot someone with a Rehmburg, point blank, full on chest shot, and do 25% damage to a bushwacker? Makes no sense.
I know and understand the star pattern of the shotgun. I’ve heard aiming down sights helps to fix this inconsistency, but after trying it, appears like it hasn’t changed.
I’ll play Aura some more with both of the mainly used shotguns and see if I can figure out why they’re this way. Gets me salty when I put 3 bodyshots into a Proxy who puts one into me and I die. Or when I headshot a merc only to see 10% damage done… Haha
The question is more complicated than that. Shotguns at the moment are just frustrating to fight against for newbies, who mostly fight at close range due to their lack of aim, yet tends to underperform a lot against good players who can easly down you from afar. Basically, you’ll make a rampage on 8v8 servers full of low levels, but if you play in a DBN competition don’t expect to be able to hit a single person if they see you coming. Frus
Shotguns deal an absurd amount of damage with a single shot, to the point of one shotting mercs with a low hp value if you are playing with Hollunds or Remburg 7 (Remburg can deal over 90 hp of damage in a single hit without aiming for the head). However, they all have a crippling range issue. Since those are stacking both spread and falloff mechanics, your damage will decrease a lot over distance. When you consider that DB’s metagame at high level favors mid to long range gameplay and most people you are fighting against have a decent aim, you can definitely expect getting killed before you can reach anyone at shotgun range. Due to this, you’ll very rarely see a good player wielding a shotgun.
A plain nerf would be a bad idea. There’s probably a way to make shotguns more interesting for veterans while making them much less painful to fight against for beginners.
This said, moving to weapon feedback.

you get the ‘headshot ping’ sound if even one pellet hit the head. However, if it was the only pellet (out of the ~9) that actually hit the opponent, you will deal the 10% damage like you say.
shotgun protip1: don’t aim for the head, aim for the neck.
shotgun protip2: don’t ever bother aiming for neck if they are <60hp and in your optimum range (pretty much a long-jump distance)
I really want them to be less niche and more skillful. Because of their large spread and high damage, it makes it really easy to decimate any merc at close range especially when b-hopping , even if it be against a player of clearly higher skill. I want their damage to be reduced at close range, slightly increased at medium range and made much more accurate to encourage headshots.
That being said I do not think they are OP as such, just annoying and really niche.
Personally I feel like meatshotting, where all pellets in blast hit, should net an instant kill in certain scenarios. But that’s just me.

try shooting aura that wall jumping around while holding spoonknife trying to stab you with it.
its tense enough that you might not kill her in one shot.
My only problem with them is how SD thought it a bright idea to buff Remburg’s viable range. Other than that they’re fine by me.
I’d ask x3onn considering his history with them.
Also where’s the “I don’t particularly care but I hate their concept in a game like DB” option?
