DB isn’t a game that panders to those with no aim. Unless I’m missing something…
Unintentional pun?

I guess some mercs are beginner friendly?
How beginner friendly must Aura and Skyhammer be? It continues to bewilder me why Aura isn’t a staple in Ranked games anymore.

I’ve seen a 0/22 K/D carry a team to victory by just healing and reviving.

Skyhammer is the pinnacle of beginner friendly, i will disregard all complain that throwing the marker at general direction is too hard.
also, its even better to the team if the KD is good and the medic is still reviving and healing the team.
ive seen some 20K+ aura with 15/0
the trick with playing Aura or sparks is to become a coward at the right time.

Or to have exceptional movement with a cricket bat/knife/shotgun to the enemies jugular.

A student always learns moves from a master, the master rarely fights the student because it would be far too easy.
Then you are talking about training, not competition. In Martial Arts competition, I never saw any newbies fighting masters! DB was supposed to be competitive… And finally, you are saying the same thing as me “the master rarely fights the student because it would be far too easy”, that’s exactly my point!

I’d be curious to see what kind of things you would see implemented as handicaps, but generally, CMM should negate the need for any of this.
Currently, CMM negate nothing, except the game itself. Actually, only Min/Max level servers would negate the need for any of this. (I laughed hard when I saw you answered to a closed thread ;))
I’m against Handicaps in DB, but an easy way would be to increase cool-downs.
There is no so called “handicap” in DB, a single “out of place skill level player” can destroy the whole balance of the game, let alone 2-3 which is the case 50%+ times, making it a very 1 sided match.
I can think of many handicaps, but a simple but most effective change would be just tweak the spawn timer when a game is highly unbalanced giving handicap to the weaker side.
or, force-system shuffle without any votes, when the game algorithm feels a game is highly unbalanced. (Veteran might rage at this, but me being 1 i kinda like the idea. balanced=more fun, isn’t that what we r playing for? )

Except the only competition in DB takes place in ranked mode or during tournament. CMM and server browser matches are the training ground

Well said. Here’s a better example: any school-house or community sport that has team captains. (Even DBnation does this…) Think Dodgeball, Kickball, etc.The way it works is that captains take turns picking all of the players they want for their side first, the best, the cream of the crop, down to the kid with the nose fungus that can’t breathe right who still wants to play. Each team has it’s players, and you gotta deal with the weaker players in a sportsmanly way or else you get docked gym points. Even then, the bad players often get multiple attempts at things and sometimes do crazy fun things that make the game fun. Like suddenly getting that kick that no one expected out and everyone’s cheering, or kicking the ball backwards and getting fouled and people can laugh at that too. As long as the game is fun, and it’s balanced (CMM will be sorting higher tier players into matches with higher tiers… so essentially DB’s elo and CMM do their best to be the team captains that don’t participate… or refs) and both sides agree to keep things happy and civil, then it’s great.@stayfreshshoe said:

Um… mix/max level servers would just be sort of a training ground. For it to actually be balanced and competitive we’d still need the things from ranked mode… Also, everything Shoe said was addressing someone’s rather incorrect response to a player that just came back after 9 months, and the fact that Splash Damage is STILL working towards future progression. I’ve often wanted to say things in threads that aren’t closed, and I’m glad he’s saying anything as a community manager at all.

Sure When you say cooldowns, do you mean on abilities or mercs coming back to life? etc? What do you mean?
