DLC in Dirty Bomb?

(TheVulpesFox) #1

Hi all, today I was browsing the internet and saw many videos about the new SW Battlefront Down-loadable Content “Jakku”. This had me thinking. Is there a future for DLC in Dirty Bomb. We have had the down and dirty pack but is there anything else apart from just buying mercs and cases in packs.
A problem I foresee is that the additional content would not be enough to attract players. It would have to be different enough not to just add it in an update, however, still have to be unmistakably Dirty Bomb. Which brings forward another question - what would the DLC be? I think if there were to be extra content for DB then a new game-mode would have to be added, maybe something similar to rush. Or maybe banning character abilities and introducing new ones (maybe even having a different selection of mercs) and possibly staging the rounds on different maps. It would practically be a whole new game but I think it might be interesting.
Of course, we may ask if this would be free. If it were free then it would probably be pointless to call it DLC and should just add it to the game.
Singleplayer. Campaign. Hmmm. A single player campaign would be absolutely awesome, taking us through the history of the dirty bomb attacks and finding out all the little stories about each merc, the fight between the CDA and Jackal. But… would it feel right. Would it feel like Dirty Bomb. I’m not so sure. The developers would have to somehow keep the atmosphere of DB while adding a story to be followed with bots. I think it would be a large task and it wouldn’t really be DB as we know it. However, that is why it could be DLC, a little twist on the game.
Again free or not free, that is the question.
Just something I thought would be interesting to read for you players (in between wrecking scrubs) and please leave any feedback or your ideas on DLC or where this game is going.
Thanks for reading and I will see you in-game.

DLCs are a part of the cancer that ruins game-industry for me. Only a few companies are doing it right, but most like EA (glad you mention Badfront) are pretty much abusing the system to cash more on a mediocre game and cut content to release it later for more money.
I hope SD will never make DLCs here although I heard of them making free-DLCs in the past for brink (an example of DLC done right). But still. Those things can be regular content-updates.

If Dirty Bomb makes a full fledged DLC with content like maps, cards, etc I will not play Dirty Bomb until changes are made. In other words, removed.
Mostly because Dirty Bomb is in ‘beta’ nor should they do something like that.

We have plenty of DLC already. Don’t need no more.

Did you read the discussion?

What the heck is the stabbity stab mcstab pack?

Phantom + Credits + Elite cases

Was for limited time only during the meltdown event a few weeks back. Or at least I think it was for a limited time.

Also as @Jostabeere says, nothing regular free content updates wont solve, new maps/mercs/gamemodes/special events like containment war…

If they struggle to make maps themselves they can always turn to the community and let us map for them.

I just hope if they do regular content updates it isn’t just skins though…kinda lazy and bland imo.

OH HELL NO!
YOU WANT TO PAY 20$ FOR A DLC LIKE WITH ALL THE FUCKING EA GAMES ? BF4 = 60$ + 5 DLCs THAT COST 15$ EACH SO IS 60 + 75 = 135$ AND THE WORST IS THAT BRINGS CONTENT THAT SOME OF THE COMMUNITY CAN USE, AND NOT LET ME START WITH BATTLEFRONT, MY FUCKING GOD, WHAT A PIECE OF VOMIT, 110$ FOR THE ENTIRE PACK, THAT IS FUCKING BS, AND YOU ARE JUST BUYING SKINS SOOOO
no

My guess is that each Unknown App is a merc you can buy with credits or cash, which were updated due to being on sale along with Thunder being released.

The Stabbity Stab and Total Meltdown were a combination of mercs and boosters for a discount.

There’s the Down and Dirty and regular starter packs, the rest is self explanitory.

@UnaSalusVictus AFAIK all future maps/modes will be free as they have been so far.

The only paid for content is cosmetics(cases), mercs, bronze loadouts and credit boosters(not worth it).

And user created maps are a definite possibility. SD has stated that after release they will be looking at the option to create an SDK to support map making. Obviously not confirmed, but I am hopeful.

I would suggest researching and reading before making assumptions. I will point out that spreading FUD(Fear, Uncertainty and Doubts) about the game is against forum rules.

Thanks!

@UnaSalusVictus I didn’t realize Jostabeere worked for SD and had great insight into all of the development plans and roadmaps. /sarcasm

Yes, if they choose they can certainly do whatever they want with the game(with Nexon’s approval I also assume), but selling DLC packs in the way you describe goes completely against their stated business model and everything they have done or said so far.

Also, based on data mining from some users two more maps are in the works for DB. Dockyard and one other I forget the name…

@Amerika @Ardez @Faraleth @RazielWarmonic Can you like do something about this person putting words in my mouth I never said and acting like my personal opinion is a fact for him? I am seriously upset about him spamming it everywhere and labelling my personal opinion as a fact together with indirectly saying I’m an idiot?

Closing this thread before it goes any further.

@UnaSalusVictus “Probably Never” Is what Faraleth said. “Most-likely not” is what Jostabeere said. I can see where you got “Never” from that, but the point is that neither Fara or Jostabeere have the authority to confirm or deny user created content because they simply don’t work for SD. Please do not twist other users/mods words. Picking and choosing what you repeat is exactly that.

They can confirm that user hosted servers are a never because SD has said it so many times. Also several times they have stated they MAY work on an SDK post-release and it would take quite a while to complete(apparently). The SDK would be to support map development. The way the servers are hosted all user created content would have to pass SD’s approval if they decide to go with that procees.

We aren’t even to release yet, no decision is set in stone. Try not to make assumptions this early.
