While you are not going to like the answer, they pretty much already have told us. The current system with Ready Up (which was not present at launch mind you) was their solution to the lack of lobbies. They said they had few if any UI people in the game’s development and that is the reason this feature suffered and was not present at launch. If someone else knows different feel free to correct me.
While I would love a more traditional lobby like Halo, it doesn’t sound like it will ever be coming. Maybe we’ll see it in Brink 2 if that title is made and they’re listening to our feedback. Currently the half-assed one present works well enough for me and my friends to consistently get into the same games and on the same team.
The only thing you can really do is sit around and try to pull host by getting an empty game, inviting your friends, and then switching teams around if autobalance happens to be on. I know it sucks, but that’s all you can do and probably all you will ever be able to do.
TL;DR - The current system really sucks, but don’t sit around holding your breath for a better lobby system. Based on what SD has shared thus far it’s probably not going to happen.
