Disable Depth of Field?

(PillowTalk) #1

Is there a command or setting in the cfg I can change to turn off DOF?

(veganzombiez) #2

You mean that zoom when you look down iron sights/RDS? I think the only thing you can do is to equip the advanced iron sights. I haven’t found a command for it yet, and the Brink Config tool doesn’t have it either.

(MrLevi) #3

I didn’t even notice depth of field. Maybe I’m blind.

(PillowTalk) #4

No, not the zoom. The blurring effect of areas beyond a certain distance. It makes large areas look ugly and obscures your vision in the most unrealistic way possible. Things don’t become out of focus and blurry the further away they are IRL… Just smaller. It would also provide a performance boost in the bigger maps.

(PillowTalk) #5

bump. I really hope it can be disabled.

(EnderWiggin.DA.) #6

Did you look in html cvars?

(beute) #7

r_skipDepthOfField 1

but I couldnt test it as it’s not changeable in multiplayer matches.(yes even if I play the campaign)

if I change it while in the mainmenu it will be set back as soon as I join a game.

Well that sucks.

How do I remove this milky, blurry (and ugly) “Feature”? Is that Depht of field? It hurts my eyes and looks unrealistic!

(GR0MIT) #10

That would be post processing, its inthe Video/Advanced section when you go into options

(lederstrumpf) #11

this picture was taken with postprocessing OFF

(PillowTalk) #12

Yeah, it’s not post processing; not affected by the option anyway. DOF is still there when PP is off.

(lederstrumpf) #13

some news here?

That’s DOF mixed with Glow/Bloom.

(Crawdaddy79) #15

Bump. Would like a solution to this as well.

I’m not nearsighted in real life, and I don’t like games that try to simulate that I am.

(murka) #16

I really dislike this “feature” because on large maps where i just have to see in the distance my eyes get tired very fast(about 20-30 min). I’m not used to non-perfect vision so that’s probably why.

The effect is worst on SecTow. This effect makes the map unplayable for me.

Also, this cvar isn’t working:

r_skipPrePass	skip pre-pass (and all the effects that depends on it, such as depth of field)

(Kurnuttaja) #17

They have locked all the cvars that would disable DOF, Bloom or Post-process. So there is no cvar to disable DOF anyway until SD unlocks the cvars.

r_SkipDepthOfField 1 is the cvar for this but its locked.

Well, by the description r_skipPrePass should disable it and it is an unlocked cvar.

I bet right now if you were to disable these processing effects then maybe your vision while incapacitated would be clear when using downed fire, or maybe flashbangs wouldn’t make the screen white anymore? You can see how it might create an unfair advantage if it’s true.
