I don’t know about any of you, but lately I find it hard to get into a game anymore, any game. Not like I used to. Maybe I’m just getting old 28, but not knowing how things work is kind of a blessing. Now adays, all I see is the technical aspects. Trigger here, scripted event there, texture looks outta place, coulda built better whatever…etc. Anyone else get the same thing? Not being able to enjoy a game because of over analyzing it. Kind of a bummer.
Dis-Enchantment of a gamer...
Nope. Having the mapping understanding just helps me appreciate a well assembled map every more. But I definately do not overanalyze them … to busy killing things
When i m really playing, i concentrate on humiliating the opponents, so no time for that :bump:
But when it comes to the question “which maps for our clanserver” of course i look at them with a different eye now.
ET is the only game i still enjoy… whenever i try other games i compare it to enemy territory… and think, man Et is the only good fps game:P
I recently tried Quake IV expecting it to be awesome, but all I found out was that I’m too old for mindless brute force. ET provides something deeper to me, a game where you actually have to think and work together to prevail. ET is an old game and it doesn’t measure up to the latest games when it comes to graphics and shinies, but when it comes to the important things it’s still in my opinion one of the best games.
I think I do analyze the map I play a lot more now than what I used to before I got into mapping, but I don’t think it ruins my game experience. The tecnical aspect of a level is just asl interresting as the gameplay itself, especially when you look at architecture, gameplay implementation, art and coding as a whole.
Altough I still can have fun with games, its mainly old ones. I know how they work or whatever, but at least their still simple, efficient games, not technical showcases. I somehow feel like recent games are lacking of something like ‘gameplay soul’. Maybe it is because there’s so many people working on those projects that the projetcts end up being no one’s baby.
i find that mapping increased my strategic thinking ingame, but then comes the riflenoob and f***s that strategy why a lucky nade…
