Dirtycups.gg presents the Closed Beta Cup Series! The series will feature approximately 7 consecutive weekly cups before an eighth, final cup. The top eight teams in the series, ranked by points (read more on that here), will battle it out for a much larger prize during the final cup. We’re kicking off with our first cup this Sunday with a new set of rules. Make sure you take the time to read through [url=“http://dirtycups.gg/tournaments/rules/”]them all as a few things have changed since the previous cups. Team captains will now be responsible for checking in there team prior to the cup, uploading post match screenshots, and reporting scores on Challonge to advance to the next round. The first cup of the series will be randomly seeded, every cup after this one will have official seedings. Good luck and have fun!

So will the teams be changing week to week? It is based purely on who signs up first?

Can a player be on a team in week 1 and then a different team week 2? If you can, will players be able to change teams after week 7 going into week 8 as well?

Hey Ardez,
Sign-ups are a first come, first serve basis for the time being. If there are an excessive amounts of teams signing up, we’ll deal with it.

A player can switch between teams, and no player is locked down to a team. However, a warning may be issued if an individual is switching teams a lot. “A lot” being subjective in this case. Teams are free to break apart, reform, etc, but they will not keep points doing this. A static team will be better in the long run.

So why is seeding not random after the first week? What if too many teams have no points yet in the cup? My team won’t be ready for this Saturday, but we may be competing later in the series(Week 3-4).

Also, What if all of the players on a team change except for the team captain throughout the tournament. Example ~ Players A, B, C, D, E are all on a team. Week 2 B leaves, Week 4 C and D leave, Week 6 E leaves(all players were replaced in time to compete that week). Have they lost points during this process? Technically the team never broke apart and reformed, people just left. The captain and name haven’t changed.

Also, what is your policy on backup players as may be needed if somebody can’t make it? Are you able to submit backups when you submit your team? If a team is missing a player on game day and backups aren’t allowed, then what will happen to that team? Auto-Forfeit or can they try and play down a man?

Thanks and sorry for the many many questions.

This ensures better play in the cups, and eliminates concerns for prizes. Let’s say v568 and INI got lobbed against eachother for the first round, wouldn’t be very exciting, would it? Teams that have previously played will be seeded, basically teams with no previous experience in the cups will have a seed of none and will be randomly thrown into the brackets after the seeded teams if that makes sense?
Example: Team Alpha, Gamma, and Omega sign up for the cup. They have all played before, and get seeded as 1, 2, and 3, respectfully. Team Beta and Delta both sign up and haven’t played before, there for have no ranking. Team Beta and Delta get randomized seedings in the bracket, making Delta seed 4 and Beta seed 5, so in the end the seedings for the bracket are as follows:
Alpha - 1
Gamma - 2
Omega - 3
Delta - 4
Beta - 5

I’ve been thinking about this, honestly. I think the safe route to go is just to have points follow the team’s name, as long as there is one member. Here is my reasoning:
If Team Alpha has 5 players, A, B, C, D, E, and get replaced like you said, they still have to prove their worth. If they consistently lose, their points will not carry them, as they will get eliminated on the first or second round, and other teams will get more points than them. However, if they consistently win, then they will continue to earn more points and hold their spot.
However if Team Alpha completely breaks apart, those points cannot be transferred to anyone else. If a group reforms with Team Alpha’s name, they will not inherit those points.

Ringers are okay, whether they are not a roster or not. If a team is constantly using ringers, however, they will be talked to. I understand stuff happens and the rest of the team may want to play, a lot of people like to chill out in Mumble and see if they can ring for a team if needed as well. However, I will say that a team should use the same line-up throughout a bracket if at all possible.

No problem! I rather you ask now then the day of and not get a proper response. ^^
