dirty lightmap

(Red*Uk) #1

Hi all, i got an error when using bumpmapping in Et i have around 10 textures all bumpmapped but for some reason 2 of the textures are messed up
See the black spot all over the tombstone texture .

any ideas??
also wondering what setting people are using with the nvdia plugin for photoshop etc

All the textures/normals working fine in doom3 (so i dont think its the normal but aint sure)

Its very difficult to say with out a shot of the map with “/r_lightmap 1” but it looks like your normal map is scaled to high. So the near by light is casting strong shadows.
There realy very little to be gained from using normal maps for small detail like this in q3/et.

hi there, yeh i it find easy to play with normal maps atm, as i’m kinda flicking between D3 and E.T atm so its easy to use the textures for both etc’s…

Heres the image with r_lightmap 1 note: the black spot only appear on this wall and are covering 2-3 normal maps/images not just the tombstone i posted.

I would like to thank you for the bumping tut on your site i’ve been having some fun with the bump shader so far…
Most maps i make dont leave my HD anyway but i still would like a solution

View of dual screen dual mapping :stuck_out_tongue:

No worries

That makes things a bit clearer.
Have you rescaled the affected textures?
If you resize them, the normal map will resize, but the lightmap wont. My thought would be this could effect the way q3map2 is sampling the normal map.

Hmm not sure on this what i have done is resized both the textures and the normal sizes since i posted b4 just waiting on a compile
They were 256x512 for texture and 128x256 for the normal now they are both the same, while i got you here :stuck_out_tongue:
Can u give some adivce on what setting u used in you bump map picture as i’m kinda NooB at photoshop etc…

Sorry, I ment resized in radiant (quick example: when you add textures to patches it affects the texture scale unless you hit "natrual"which returns it to normal or ctrl + b to make a texture fit a brush), not as in texture size.

The settings used for the tutorial:

The scale setting is the only thing I would change depending on the effect I want.

Yeh i resized in radiant b4
but my normals where diffrent to my actual texture sizes, i’ve since changed these and the dirty spots have gone v57!
