Dirty Cups Test Cup #1 - Final Vods...

(PixelTwitch) #1

Hey guys,

The first half of the first map has horrible camera angles because I was going to edit mine together with the stream version but due to multiple crashes I forget that idea and start controlling the camera properly around 10 min in. sorry for that.

Anyway, Map1 = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bd0HGYKMtv4&feature=youtu.be

Personally I found the camera control much better at the start than at the end.

Sports stadium view three miles from the action static shots are just boring, this has long been a problem with real sport events that it’s not practical to have cameras on the field of play, we have no such physically limiting factors, so why “make do” with this poor, unengaging solution when we can by it’s very nature do better.

Close quarters, over the shoulder, movie style, constantly moving and first person views are much more engaging, tension building and enjoyable.

I want to mention something that you’re probably already aware of, could be taken as a personal attack, or even just make me look like a dick, but I mean it in completely good spirit and for the most part (guess I am a dick ) enjoy listening to your perspective.

So with that preface I should probably just spit it out, I’m referring to non-fluency, or more specifically the noticeability of urm’s and stuttering. The occasional filler isn’t so bad, but prolific use does detract what should be the meat of what you’re saying.

One thing I found interesting was, IIRC, not long ago you were pretty adamant that there was a “second attacker advantage” due to the added time pressure of needing to get it done ASAP, and yet it felt like you were ready to call good game on this one extremely early.

With 4 slots for casters for next time I think we can probably record a couple of POVs for VODs that could be easily edited together, albeit I don’t think any of us has done this much before. People were also suggesting that the camera should be controlled by a play-by-play caster- all suggestions and such are useful. I wasn’t able to join the server until the final, but I prefer to offer tactical filler commentary anyway… that and giving syku cute nicknames :).

I have so many ideas for a spec mode that I want to see.

The only way we could use multiple cams realistically would be to not record voice over directly onto them otherwise the sound is going to be ****ed. Personally I would prefer it to just be 2 casters as the amount of toe stepping was next level. Feel like I got very little practice in the previous cup. Hopefully things will get better

I personally agree really… Obviously getting that first person for that epic spree or when things are about to go clutch is also really cool. That said (ignoring that I know my camera skills this time around were very poor) it is something that is impossible to get right because of the wildly varying opinions on how a match should be shot. Generally I find tacticians want the 3rd person stuff, old school guys and competitive guys want the first person all the time and then the people that want the mix. Just going to keep experimenting and see when people stop complaining about it

I have two excuses for this one…
1, I kept telling myself to try and use words and examples someone that has not played before would understand.
2, (this is the big one really) 3-4 casters made it feel like you had to butt in to say something and when you did you felt rushed to get it out of the way.

I could be wrong but I believe that many people would agree that I was better in my previous casts with Rex or Solo.
Me and Inferno was just starting to get into it around game 2 when we then had fishstix in.
Next game was me and inferno casting off the stream and the finals was our first time with 4 people in the game at once.
That was far to hectic… If that was to happen again I would likely go off and just solo cast or get one other person to cast with me for a video and leave the streaming for the other guys. I certainly was not good enough this time and I feel my way to improve is feel comfortable and less pressure (first time casting on a stream, first time casting for a real cup and first time casting with 4 talkative people) lol

One thing I found interesting was, IIRC, not long ago you were pretty adamant that there was a “second attacker advantage” due to the added time pressure of needing to get it done ASAP, and yet it felt like you were ready to call good game on this one extremely early.

Yup I did call it a little too early but only by around 10 seconds too early. The walk from attacker base to the objective point is 22 seconds there was 58 seconds on the clock. Obviously I have no way to prove this but I do honestly believe that Sick6/dMon would not have got that crate and nearly get the last crate if it was not for the lack of time so I do still believe in a second attacker advantage. Infact, we saw it on the second map with the last bomb being planted 1 min before the end of the game yet Sick6/dMon was able to hold for a full 12 min quite easily before that.

Like with any psychological advantage/disadvantage the way it effects each team is very different. Technically its not really “second attacker advantage” its more “last attempt luck” and since the second attacker has less time they have that “last attempt luck” earlier. Every time you want a team finish an objective within 2 min of the end of the timer. I would say that is possibly down to the pressure on both teams showing though.

INITIALIZE vs dMon saw .ini hold the first objective on terminal like champs until the last 1min. Sure they dMon where the first team attacking but that is still what I was pointing towards.

2 main casters is the best choice.

several camera-men for several POV’s to combine next time - is a great idea.
even as a replays for better moments, when casters specced the ‘wrong guy’

yea, lots more too learn

Maybe it does not belong here, but when Pixel can rage at the state of the game, why not me? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

First of all, it is still great to see some people that care about the community and organize such things.

But to be honest, apart from the entertaining factor of this short videos:

SD guys should really watch these videos over and over and see how horrible this looks.
I really can’t see a single tactical element or “superp” movement/aiming - whatsoever that would make a competitive game watchable.
This looks like a group of stupid hooligans rushing into each and bashing their heads into each other (fragger in the front ofc)while some idiot has to repair a tank (for what?) or jump around with some grey objectives.

I am level 6? now and I problably will not return as an active players, it is a shame to watch was it being considered as a halfway finished game - And it really feels like the devs are “OK” about the core mechanic of the game since we get the cardsystem and all that stuff now.

As said before by some other person: from time to time, there is ONE moment of merc-based/objetive based gameplay:
When the tank gets damaged ( switch to engi ) and/or when the defending team needs an airstrike ( switch to skyhammer ).

And the real big issue… Speed/Movement/Jumping.
I dont even know if it is possible to have a good view/camera perspective for this … squirrels on steroids all the way.
While really fast games still have some relaxing moments or moments before the “big showdown” ( item timing, the moment before the rush starts etc. ), this is constant battle of spaming - I really cant help myself, it is just confusing and boring to watch. There is no moment of " woah, nice play.

200 Mp/h movement speed + closed quarter maps + Fragger/Aura/Nader = ?

On year ago, i was thrilled to play comp. with Rex’s team… now I just want to run away when I see this.

about camera work:
i liked ‘follow EV’ kind of cam in the Chapel at start.
mb not every time, but for most part it realy showed a lot of action and the flow of this mappart.

so if there were some spec-bind like ‘Follow EV’ this would help
