Dirty bomb placement matches

Hi! So in preseason So me and my friend played the 10 placement matches and he won 4 and lost 6 and he got silver 4 and I won 5 and lost 5 and got gold 5 so I was wondering if it’s after like score or k/d or how much xp u got or is placement ranking system just after the wins? So if I won 10/10 games I got elite? Or is it like I can lose 7 and win 3 but have a very good score all games and then get a high rank? Pls help

I’ll quote one of the patch notes:

Over time, your ranking will update to reflect your overall skill and match performance. In a nutshell, winning matches will see your rank increase, which will eventually result in promotion to a higher division. Losses will work against you, and can see you demoted if there’s enough of them. There are also penalties for leaving Competitive Matches early, so bear that in mind when diving into that mode. There’s a lot of math going on behind the scenes, and all of that should result in competitive matches being a lot more, well, competitive.
