Dirty Bomb Menu Overhaul V.3

(NetflixandKill) #21

I love this. The backgrounds are great, I like the idea of having the animated mercs in the squad screen. Fleshing out the loadout is friendly for noobs who can’t name the weapons by their shape. Separation by class is also noob friendly, but also would help me when I’m deciding what merc from a class I want to put in my squad. Having them visually organized would help me decide faster. CDA Survival sounds really fun (the only reason I’d buy Call of Duty is for Zombies). The overall quality of the photoshopped images is great.

However, there are a few things I think could be improved:

1: (as someone said), there should be the visible loadout cards somewhere.

2: I think the “Squad” menu should be the Barracks menu. Right now, having a separate menu for the barracks feels redundant; you should just add a trade-ups and items button to the squad menu (which looks amazing. definitely my favorite.)

3: I think having a second yellow button for “survive” is distracting, and makes the top bar almost feel off-centered. I think it’d be better as another option in the “Play” dropdown menu. It could have it’s own section (like quick join v. ranked play) and have yellow text, but if another yellow button were to be added, I feel like it + the play button should be moved to align at the center of the top bar.)

4: Maybe move the “recent drops” menu from the front screen to the items menu? It feels slightly out of place (and definitely too large compared to the rest of the front screen.)

Other than these few minor things, I love it, 10/10.

Sadly its not very probable that we ever see this in Dirty Bomb.

I say find a team and do your own @$!# game with black jack and hookers.
There’s a big difference between using photoshop to show what the UI would look like and actually coding it.
hint: “find a team”
Doesn’t change the fact there’s a big difference. Right now the UI is good enough and shouldn’t be something they should focus on. Perhaps once the game is ready to fully release it could be worked on, but until then what we got now does the trick.
I forget his exact name, but on the community stream Shoe brought on a person from the UI / menu building team. I don’t think developing a UI would detract from the development of the game overall because SD already has a dedicated team to the UI (responsible for the profiles, new ranked play menus, etc). But I agree that saving a big UI overhaul would be best for when Nexon is ready to make a huge marketing push, because it will help make the game feel newer, because the general structure of our current menus has been in the game for a long, long time now.

tl;dr it’s kind of like “we already have a team for it, why not?”

CDA Survival gamemode. Only if miracles can come true. Damn.

Barracks menu is nice addition as the previous ones have been! What I would wish though is either squad or barracks merc selection would have class icon (wrench=engi, healthsign= medic etcetc) somewhere indicating what merc fits which role.

Seems completely alien concept for newbies, small addition like that would somewhat help with that imo. Sadly SD will never listen out to add such and this kind of magnificent work here also goes too unnoticed

(blufflord) #25

is there no way to actually show this to one of the ppl at SD?

Bravo. Photoshop and design skills 5/5.

Yes, there is. They are lurking on the forums and probably have seen it. @stayfreshshoe

Looks pretty neat overall some personal feedback if you are interested :>

In the Main Menu, I’d have the “Survival” option under the “Play” drop down menu so that it follows the convention of all the other gamemodes currently in the game.

I’d also move the “Recent Drops” off of the main dashboard and into the Barracks sub menu somewhere, in an effort to keep the dash clutter free and more focused on providing the player with information that is relevant on login.
(Having an outline or some glowy border on recent items in the Loadouts/Items menus combined with the date sorting option may be enough that this isn’t really all that needed)

The “Edit Clan Tag” could also be just the clan tag label with a click handler that lets you type in it right there, would need some roll over / hover effect with a tooltip to help indicate that it is intractable. But it would then remove the need for the new and other wise unused section with just the “Edit Clan Tag” button.

On the “Squad Menu” how does the “Swap Merc” button function, I see you have all the mercs on top, so intuitively I’d imagine you could just drag and drop a merc onto a squad slot to assign them making that button redundant?

A small thing about the Friendly/Enemy buttons I’d have them both grouped together either on the left or the right so that your mouse doesn’t have to travel as far when swapping between them.

Can confirm.
Do look.

Would like to see the hexagon frames on the merc icons color-coded by role (i.e. Red for Combat, Blue for Medic, Yellow for Engineer, Gray for Fire Support, and White for Recon).

This all looks pretty damn good though (as you probably don’t need to be told).

(inscrutableShow) #31

I’m drooling over the survival gamemode idea.

(Randomdeath) #32

Maybe put the little hex of the merc above the info in the merc menu, so you can drag and drop mercs like you can in the current ui?

(TheSeer) #33

This is absolutely incredible. I would love to see something like this when DB is out of beta.

(Black) #34

I considered it being a merc called HTA Riot Frame P-2.

Awww shit!
Do I see need survival mode with bots? Headquarters survive and defend the point?

(Luumy) #35

A survival mode in this game would be great, would definetly make me wanna play way more than right now

(Brycko) #36

NECROED because I just realized that SD implemented this. :o

Well, as least the home screen. Barracks and Squad view still to come but HOLY CRAP does this look amazing.

CDA Robot Survival would also be amazing. Or a Jackal zombie survival. Or both. Hell, you could make it competitive by pitting Jackal vs. CDA bots and CDA vs. Jackal-created zombies.
Put them in separate areas of the same map, see who survives the longest. Whoever does wins.
