Dirty Bomb is awesome and I want to give the devs money
If many people are “whining” about it, then obviously there is a problem. Although I’m not a big fan of the RNG system, it probably does get them money from people like sniff who can afford it. But for the base consumer, they may not be able to buy a lot, and have s high chance of being disappointed with their purchase. And that discourages repeat purchases, which are crucial for long term sustainability.

Hell, keep the RNG system, but add more for us to buy. More definite products would be great, such as the Christmas trinkets and humble bundle pack.
There is literally no disadvantage to this.
And keep it affordable, not going to spin the wheel of misfortune for 2,5€ a pop.

I many other people have said it, but, I thought the more people who say it the better. I refuse to purchase items where there is no guarantee that I will get something I want. I love DB, but the monetary system sucks. I would much rather purchase straight up skins or EVEN the actual game if they came out with a paid version of DB which gives you all the mercs and some skins. I really do want to spend money on Dirty Bomb because I think the game is worth it, but I won’t (except for the humble bundle, that had good value) until they fix the store and the loadout card RNG system. Not to mention I think that much of the stuff in the store is vastly overpriced. You will most likely have to change it eventually, do it sooner than later.

Common Splash Damage, people are literally asking how they can give you money.

I apoligize for the strawman, but it was inclined it in the thread title.

Problem with RNG is that those cases are too expensive, so - I think - SD is getting less money that it could. Why? It’s very simple. I want to support the devs, because DB is basically the only game I play, but I won’t pay 2e for a really small chance to get the skin I want (cobalt) and for even lower chance for this skin to has perks I want, etc. BUT I’d pay, let’s say, 0,5e for that chance. And to increase it, I’d then buy more cases.
To sum up, when one case costs 2e I won’t buy any case and so SD won’t get any of my money. But if the case costed 0,5e or less, I would spend even 10e in total.

(Ctrix) #25

^ Basically this is the argument I am making

Charity is not a sustainable business model.
I would like for this game to not die.
The current situation is not acceptable.

It’s about the greater picture. The devs won’t even notice if I give them 50$.

I was dumb enough to spend 10€ on 2 cases during the WtD event besides the other 20€ for Phantom and Stoker. Got 2 silvers. Would not do again. Ever.

(BerylRdm) #27

Yes, that’s why we should be able to buy exactly what we want. Certain cobalt skin for example. But random cases should be kept, while their prices should be lowered considerably. So you can choose - spend much more for a gold/cobalt loadout you like or little money for a random loadout. Random steam keys are popular, aren’t they?

(Kingsley) #28

If I had opportunities to buy things other than cases.
I’d spend some serious cash.

(LifeupOmega) #29

It’s almost like the loadout system is a terrible way to make money and they would have made ten times as much if they made some ACTUAL cosmetics instead.

(nokiII) #30

But don’t you like the slighty blue or slighty golden guns instead of the slighty green/brown bronze skins?

(bontsa) #31

Heck even current gun and mercenary skins would suffice for starters, as long as we could bloody assign them to any functional loadout we want, even if they’re considered mere “slightly coloured”. That is if SD is not willing to re-do that lousy system from scratch at some point.

(enigmaplatypus) #32

i would love to see something like pop vinyl figures  and i would love a dirty bomb umbrella and lanyard

I’ve talked to the devs before about the loadout system and my disdain for it, mostly in relation to how badly it can cock up balance, and partially to how much good an actual split cosmetic system could do for Dirty Bomb (and MM through use of incentive to play for good quality cosmetics/skins instead of trinkets only you can see).

People like to look pretty in games, TF2 and DotA should have taught us all that.

(bontsa) #34

Proper trinkets and gunskins = way to please people who like to see fancy stuff themselves while playing

Mercenary skins and visual cosmetics = way to please people who like to look fancy to others in terms of braggin’ rights etc. Can also be applied to appeal to first mentioned group by, for example, showing a “team lineup” or similar at the beginning/end of the match. Everyone on the server at that moment, skin owner included, can see their pompous prettiness in all it’s glory and shiny-shiny!

Win-Win for everyone included. Devs get money from all the conveyors, and both type of cosmetic lovers get to spend their either hard earned or government/relative/store-next-door funded cash on goodies.

(triteCherry) #35

I would very much enjoy a statement from Splash Damage of their opinion on why the current case system is good for their game.

(Ctrix) #36

Because this one guy spent 200$ on cases.
Nevermind that in trade 4 guys didn’t buy anything. That doesn’t show up in the charts.

The current business model is that of mobile games. There’s been publications done on that.

tl;dr it’s abusive, and specifically designed to trap gamblers. It’s disgusting really, and best of all has no synergy to the actual game. It uses the game to lure in young people and then try to make them waste all their money.
Which is a shame because Dirty Bomb is a really good game. It doesn’t have to be an abusive scam.

Oh I know and I know they know but I just want them to say it. I have yet to see a developer that gives a reasoning behind their cash shop system besides very very vague statements and it’s always entertaining how they can twist words around so they don’t seem morally wrong. Maybe Nexon is the one with the firm grasp but that is interesting as well.

(Icecoal) #38

It’s all about the dimes and this gambling bullshit is so lucrative … Just look at cs go, it’s crazy how much people spent on cases with the shitty rates. Every game with a ftp model is gacha now but as long as they are just cosmetics , I don’t mind. But still , where are the good old times when people just got what they paid for and no dlc , season pass cancer etc …
