Okay, I planned first to do it after 10 hours, but since I doubt I’ll be able to play more until the end of the steam closed beta access for that Week End, I’ll do it now.
The six hours I passed on DB were rather enjoyable. The maps overall feel good (especially Terminal ! I just love that map), the gameplay is pretty nervous though I feel like we need some more “advanced movement” mechanics. It can be something like sliding or rolling… I guess it could fit well and make the game even more enjoyable. To be honest, I have much more pleasure when I play a fast paced shooter that have a lot of movement mechanics on it (I’m a TF2 and Warframe player). Dirty Bomb is on the good path about it. The classes feels quite balanced right now even if I feel like Proxy’s base shotgun lacks something… Or maybe I am really bad with it, or Aura’s healing stationg should be something else. I can’t wait to try Nader and her Grenade Launcher since I kinda love playing with bombs (I’m a demoman main in TF2. I just hope that the GL is not an ability and that it’s well balanced). However, I think that we’ll need a few things to make that game a really good one.
- Some “symetrical” gamemode. So far, I was only able to try the objectives gamemode, with one team of defenders and one team of attackers. A gamemode were both teams attack/defend would be welcomed. We have for exemple the oh-so-classic capture the flag gamemode (capture the enemy flag), the king of the hill gamemode (control the hill of a fixed amount of time), or a control point/pushmap gamemode (You have five control points, the first two are yours, and you have to cap all of them starting by the one at the middle of the map. The you’ll be able to “push” by capping enemy’s control points).
- Tips and tricks at loading screens. It’s a simple addition that can be really helpful for beginners. I actually had to check a video to learn of lot of information about movement that wasn’t explained in the tutorial. Adding those missing informations anywere seems necessary.
- The ability to load a map and train on it by ourselves. In TF2, we’re able to load a map as a “local server” in order to discover it and train some tricks on it. It’s really helpful for what we call “rollouts” (rushing the middle point as fast as possible while using a classe able to rocketjump/stickyjump). The same thing would be really welcomed on DB for the sake of competitive gameplay, so everyone would be able to study a map or train for some parkour tricks (yes, there’s some !).
- A tutorial for every merc. I am pretty sure that you guys already though about it. I am sure that a tutorial for every single mercs would be very helpful for beginners, once again. Try to REALLY insist a lot of some teamplay mecanics, because some players may be very clueless. Also, make the main tutorial obligatory when you start the game for the first time before loading a multiplayer game. It may look “dictatorial”, but trust me, it’s really needed. Add also a presentation of the main menu and the item/crate system to the main tutorial.
I think that’s all. I may add something later though.
