Dirty Bomb fails to start correctly

#1

Hello!

I have a devastating problem.

When I tried to launch the game a few minutes ago it didn’t correctly start.
The game appeared in the Task Manager but I wasn’t able to close it.
Steam didn’t close either, it told me I had to close Dirty Bomb first.
Even restarting the laptop was a hurdle, the reboot took ten minutes.
This happened two times now.

Here my Specs:

Laptop
Windows 8.1
AMD Radeon R9 M265X and Intel® HD Graphics 4600
Intel® Core™ i7-4710HQ CPU 2.50 GHz
16 GB RAM
All drivers are up to date

I don’t think it’s my laptop because otherwise everything works fine.

Have you already tried removing and then reinstalling DB?

Thanks!

#3

No, I didn’t reinstall yet.
But if the issue should occur again, I’ll try that out.

Does that mean it is currently working/that this is an intermittent issue?

Yes, it occurs just out of nowhere.
It only happened two times now but I can’t figure out the reason.

I also don’t understand why my forum name changed back…

Next time it happens, if it does, look through your task manager for a service called antimalware service executable and see how much of your system resources it is taking up.

This is just a hunch, but I have seen other games trigger this service into consuming 90%+ CPU and freezing the game up, but not on every launch. This is just a shot in the dark, so I won’t be shocked if it isn’t the cause.

#7

I know of antimalware service executable but even that was normal.
There was only Dirty Bomb in the background processes eating like no resources at all.

Whatever, I’ll definitely inform you once the issue occurs again.

The issue occured again, just now.

According to the task manager, DB is using exactly 52.912 K RAM.
Whenever I try to close the game through the details tab, I get the error not having the rights. The funny thing is that other programs (Skype, Notepad) close without any problems.
Using an external process killer didn’t help either.

I’ll reinstall tomorrow and hope that it’s fixed with that.

Sounds like a client bug. This has happened to me, too.

It doesn’t seem to be a client bug.
Today it happened again so I reinstalled the game.
Sadly, it occured again, just now.

No idea how to fix this.

Use the Process tab to close the game ;]

As for a solution to the issue, you could try the Unreal Engine fix.

Uninstall the Game
Locate and delete the Unreal Engine folder
Re-Install the game
Test

I’m trying that the whole time. I click on close task but nothing happens.

Thanks for telling me about that “fix”.
However, I’ll reinstall my PC soon so I don’t need the fix anymore.

Wish me good luck.

Well, the issue is here again.

However, I noticed something.
I found out that it’s best not to perform any actions that use internet.
I watched this several times now.
The Xigncode loading message at the bottom right corner of the screen appears.
Then everything disappears all together.
No Dirty Bomb, no Xigncode, nothing.

Sadly that doesn’t fix the problem, it still occurs.
I did some research and found out that you are able to close processes via cmd.
I tried that out and it told me I had to force close the process via the /F command.
Well, did that too.
That didn’t work either, cmd told me the object had no instance.

Suddenly the whole pc froze and I had to restart.

Help would be appreciated.
