Dirty Bomb became messy?

Hello everyone. I welcome back myself to the forum and to the game again after 5 months of inactivity. New mercs, new maps, new things etc., there is so much to play, so much to (re)learn and so much to unlock. Before stopping playing in my previous stint, Redeye, Stoker and Thunder were not released and my experience from the game then was very sweet and addictive. However, now that I’ve started playing again, all I see is people throwing out smokes, molotovs and concussion nades. Does anyone shoot anymore?

Forgive my ignorance but I do know how unique they are in their own ways. Redeye is a joy to play and it’s my personal favourite at the moment and I do play that. But in pubs mostly, it feels like Call of Duty all over again with people just spamming their “skills”. I’m not aware of any modifications that is to come for further improvement of the game, but being in beta I’m sure things are bound to change in development. I yearn to see a need to play dirty and not be a dick. Cheers.

I haven’t noticed any change in the rate at people use their abilities, maybe the fragger grenade change (1 max frag but ~17s cooldown) might’ve changed something

If anything I see low levels in pubs not using their abilities at all  guess some people skip the tutorial despite clearly not knowing how to play.

Maybe its just the fact that those 3 mercs you pointed out being released while you have been away have all got projectile abilities and so this might increase the amount thrown overall, and remember that stoker, fletcher and redeye are all on rotation and all have projectiles, so I guess right now there are a lot of projectiles everywhere

I see many people worrying about DB is changing to skill-based game, not a shooter, but I still don’t catch up with these people. Attacking skills like molotov does contribute to your kill, but DB is still very shooty-shooting FPS. You can find out most of your merc kills come from your Primary Weapon. Unless skill kills takes over 50% of total kill, I think DB is all the way fine.

Even Fragger’s nade, the most killing-capable skill, doesn’t exceed weapon kills.

Not sure how you find this any different than people throwing airstrikes, lasers and nades around? Considering how smoke and concussion does zero damage, I’m willing to go out on a limb here and say: Yes. People still use their guns.

What you’re actually probably noticing is that it’s Redeye and Stoker in the free rotation (so, higher than usual amounts of smoke/molotovs) and Thunder is new, so people are still playing with their new toy.

Edit: PS. Welcome back.

The irony of the bolded statement coming from a guy who has the only merc in the game who doesn’t need to actually fire his weapon most of the time as his avi >/

On topic: Not changed at all honestly. Always been like this. just more noticeable skills now to throw out.

I think it’s all the OHKOs and obnoxiousness getting to you, that is also happening to me.

This game has a LOT of ways to just die instantly. Some of them you learn to avoid, others you simply can’t. It’s very frustrating.

Well it depends. I went into a 8v8 knowing it’ll be chaotic just for the fun of it. Guess what. Everyone was a merc with explosives. Eventually everyone’s FPS dropped so much that we all just agreed to knife each other.
So I’m guessing 6v6 and 7v7 you might notice less of skill spam. Probably 8v8 is where you experience it.

The thing with abilities is that some classes (Fragger, Fletcher, Sparks, Nader, Rhino, some more) are basically build around them, and comboing with their ability is your best choice. Take Fletcher as an example, you can stick a sticky and finish off wounded enemies with your secondary.
