DIrty Bomb = Bashing New Players

(mahoganyHelicopter) #1

Today I had a few games as a rookie with DIrty Bomb. Most of the games looked for my team so;

cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/30730600937004797/5040307AE69F6A6BD03B06C1D4B0DEC5D5D8ED02/

It was 6V6 at beginning, jsut 2 Players in our team could not more deal with it, to get killed after 5 sec. Respawn

Dear Developers, what do you think how high is the chance that a beginner give the game still a chance, there are today jsut to much f2pmmofs Games.

Pls make some Server for newbies where they can play just against new Players, or anything else. I dont want to play more DIrty Bomb, for Today and Tomorrow.

Regards

did you try the match making ?
many players have been playing for 2 years and are quite good

(The99thProblem) #3

Yea if you dont use matchmaking all you can do is hope that all the better players dont go to one team. But hey, use it as difficult practice to get better.

I felt the same as OP, still i play since first beta. Well, once every two or three months…
I don’t know if it’s bashing rookies or just the fact rookies need more time to get into DB gameplay. I did rage against the game for a whole year calling it cr@p, but actually, at some point i noticed i’m more into Counter-strike/arma/america’s army kinda fps ballistic, which isn’t the purpose of DB (nor Brink).

So sometime it seems some games aren’t made for you, this simple. That’s a pitty, i really enjoy the camera and body mvnt feel, the game overall smoothness, but i can’t (like, at all) appreciate the shooting. It’s too nerveous for me and not realistic enough for me. Also characters aren’t all balanced yet and a few are overused (i don’t have names in mind, but the AK47 guy for example). So, maybe it’s weird to say after two years of testing but, give DB time to be balanced. That’s why i don’t play everyday, cuz i’m coming back to the game after months of updating to see the differences, see if i can enjoy it a bit more.

And yeah matchmaking could be a solution, even if good players sometime create new character and get back to lvl0. Then it’s like “su’prise motherf@kar!”.
But really, try to think about what you seek. One can want to love a game, that doesn’t mean you will at each and every point, and all you can do is leaving it to others. Once you understand it, you can still play on the beta and give feedbacks about other aspects so your judgement does not conflict with the hardcore contributors.

Still, spawn killing is garbage, SD should fix this. Also i wish they stopped the “1 character = 1 loadout” thingy, i don’t like much weapons in DB and on top of it, they are on different characters. In order to play without raging at the shooting system i can only play healer and i flee like pussy, can’t play otherwise (do the same in Brink). Playing support class is sometime the only fix if you want hard to stay in that game.

To be clear: The level of a player sais nothing about skill. Lvl 0 = lvl 999
Everyone plays with the same mercs.

The MM is based on XP/min K/D etc… So it could well be that a player with lvl 5 is playing against players with lvl 20… The lvl 5 player just does not put in as many play hours and lvls up slower, but his skill level is the same.

Simply said: High level = lots of played hours =/= skill

(DamarusRex) #6

Well said.
Therefore, we can wonder why would DB put levels in the actual game? Do we need this to see some progression (kind of addiction system). Counter-strike ain’t no levels and still players feel the progression (cuz the get confident game after game etc). After all, what do levels change? It just unlocks characters, hurrrr.
In the other hands, K/D ratio is not much of a clue of player’s skill. One can be a dick and camp or randomly be lucky basturds.

So, in other words, how could DB bring a good matchmaking system?
Displaying/filtering player’s hours played? In that case there should be no way at all to reset this intel, in order to stay sincere towards everybody.
OR another solution : fock it all! No matchmaking at all, “play and man up till u rank, maggutz”, oldstyle fps.

Meanwhile i just would like a PVE game mode so i know how it feels to actually achieve a frag . Perhaps that’d help a lot the players which don’t have a lot of time to spend on the game and can’t get as much hours as DB fanatics. That would help to get into dirty bomb softly and progressively. Than, PVP comes when you’re ready (or think to be so).
The more i think about it, the more i find PVE an attractive idea, and an alternative to keep players on DB, somehow.

I don’t know how SD organizes the MM. Just guessing with the KD realy (of which you are right not indicating skill). There is a system calles echo though and it is pretty advanced in gathering player stats. I think that system is used to extract the stats for MM.

Ad for the leveling. Yes it is just something to brag about I guess. It will be linked to load out cards and unlocking mercs, but that is it. It is more of a prestige thing I guess.

There will be an other system with “ranks” this rank will be indication of your actual skill level. But it is not implemented yet.

(DamarusRex) #8

That echo system gotta lot of work to do. But maybe we’re chasing ghosts and OP issue is not really the point. That’s every game problem : players different skill. And some devs don’t “fix” it as it’s not really a problem but just something normal, to create competitivity.
But imo, i find DB one of the most frustrating fps i ever played. Probably because OP and I can’t get too hardcore, we are the ones to blame. But meanwhile, we can’t enjoy the game…
So it’s hard to balance all of it. All i can say is that Team Fortress 2 is so funny, even when your team lose. In DB i don’t have fun, like never. Of course i got boner when i accidently take a man down. But that’s all and not often.

(The99thProblem) #9

It is just like everything else in life; with regular practice, you can get great. What I would really recommend is you find your character that you are great with or really like (sometimes those are the same, sometimes those are different) and just keep practicing. Give it a month and you will see that you are the one making others around you rage quit.

Right now there are still very few players in the beta, but this will change and with more and more people in the pool the MM system will be able to better split pros from beginners.

Bear with it for now, you’re in the small first phase of Steam.

Yea and when other players are admitted into the game they will see you as the pro!

Unfortunatly i don’t have much time, and when i do have it, i play css or tf2 (cuz i play them for a long time). So the only solution for me is to find something close to my other fps experience so i can adapt faster in DB.

I’m more into rifle (in css i play m4) and like to headshot. But it came out that DB does not 100% HS every time, so my rage intensifies. It feels like the aweful brink shooting system, but “more accurate” if i can say that.
Then, assuming i can’t kill anyone, i swap to play a healer, but i don’t like the “bag drop” thingy, i prefer the brink medic approach, when you had to be close to use the seringe. Dropping bags around is not my hobby and i find it boring (i used to play slim medic in brink). So far i can’t find character that fits me. The bald guy with ak47 is nice, but i often see it in servers and i feel like “meh, they already have 5 of this character in the team… wont take it, right.” And almost all other characters feels quite similar to me.
I was really looking to the character loadout builder when they announced DB, i am disappointed, all i can do is wait the next dozen characters to show up if ever.

Well to be honest, you sound like you are just adjusting to a completely new type of play style. Adjusting to anything can be hard, difficult and, at times, irritating. Just stick with and perhaps you’ll see how much you love the game. Good luck mate.

(DamarusRex) #14

Yeah that’s it, i’m adjusting. And i don’t practice enough to keep going on this gameplay, nor remembering it after months.
I’ll play this evening to try some guys (but i guess my account has been reset due to steam transfert) from the start roster. Thx!

Yeah we know it’s a tough learning curve especially with seasoned players around. We working and doing our best to make sure it will be an enjoyable experience for everyone.
