-dirtmapping problem

(cedimtar) #1

Hi ! I compile map with “Q3Map2 2.5.16” :

C:\Program Files\GtkRadiant-1.4\q3map_2.5.16_win32_x86\q3map2.exe" -fs_basepath "D:\Jeux\jediacademy\GameData" -fs_game "base" -game "ja" -light -bouncegrid -deluxe -dirt -dump -fast -filter -patchshadows -v -bounce 4 -bouncescale 1.0 -compensate 2.0 -dirtmode 1 -dirtdepth 128 -dirtscale 1 -dirtgain 4 -gamma 1.8 -samplesize 16 -lightmapsize 128 -samples 3 -scale 1.0 -super 4

I show you that because you can see I use the “dirtmapping” but i have problems with this settings during the compilation :

— Light —
Adding debug border to lightmaps
Cheap mode enabled
Cheap grid mode enabled
Enabling Challenge Pro Mode Asstacular Vertex Lighting Mode ™
Generating deluxemaps for average light direction
WARNING: Unknown argument “-dirt”
Dumping radiosity lights into numbered prefabs
Fast mode enabled
Lightmap filtering enabled
Patch shadow casting enabled
Radiosity enabled with 4 bounce(s)
Bounce (radiosity) light scaled by 1.000000 to 0.250000
Lighting compensation set to 1/2.000000
Enabling randomized dirtmapping
WARNING: Unknown argument “1”
Dirtmapping depth set to 128.0
WARNING: Unknown argument “128”
Dirtmapping scale set to 1.0
WARNING: Unknown argument “1”

Please, what I have to do ?
(sorry for my bad english)

Using every single compile switch in the book does not improve the appearance of your map. Many of the switches (-super and -deluxe for instance) aren’t used anymore. For your light compile, I recommend something like this:

-light -fast -patchshadows -samples 3 -bounce 8 -gamma 2 -compensate 4 -dirty

I haven’t used dirtmapping ambient occlusion much yet, so I’m not sure how -dirtmode -dirtdepth -dirtscale and -dirtgain fit into this, but try it without all the excess switches.

Yes, use -dirty, and not-dirt. The error message Q3Map2 prints out tells you this.

Do not use -deluxe unless you’re mapping for Tenebrae or other engines with native support for deluxemaps. You’ll just double the size of the lightmaps in the BSP otherwise.

Lastly, don’t use -filter. Obsidian’s suggested switches are a pretty good starting point.

Humm … ok thank you. Unfortunately when I use -dirt it’s the same thing than when I not use it, you understand :

If you’re using “-dirt” it’s no wonder there’s no effect.

-dirty is the switch you should be using. Not -dirt.
