Different Skin Loadouts

(forlornStake) #1

So there has been a discussion about Obsidian Loadout cards lately and that Founders cards won’t be available again.
What bothers me is if there is any chance for cards to come out that don’t just recolour the Merc but also change the skin like the Founder cards. Wouldn’t it be amazing? Like as if there was a card Tier above Cobalt and Below Obsidian.
What does the community say?

(srswizard) #2

Yeah, but they can’t expect people to trade away 6 cobalts for whatever they are adding next.
The system has got to change.

Well I mean, why not? It’s a lot of extra work for the devs, also it should be something special.

If you dig far enough into the DB Facebook photo album you will find these, which show alternate models for Arty and Bushwhacker:

And no, these are not earlier concepts for these guys, these pictures came out after the current designs. We can only hope that these models (and similar ones for the other mercs) will eventually make it in the game.

It’s not extra work, by any means, considering that their monetization system is heavily relying on that stuff, and the fact that they already have a bunch of these special skins made and ready to go.
I don’t think that Nexon is relying on the few Sniff’s to carry the game financially, so they’ll have to seriously research new approaches.
I personally would like to see several skins, for each merc, available through the game’s store, for 10-20€ each, something you can apply onto any card, maybe one time use, after which it’ll be permanent, unless overwritten with a new skin.
(That’d remove the gambling element, though, so I don’t think we’ll see this.)

Well, this is the best way I can think of implementing it with the current system, since we can’t have a proper armory system, anyway, and we’re stuck with the dumb cards.

I think in the end there might be something similar anyway… when the game finally releases then. I’d love to see anything like that.

I don’t know whether this has been mooted or not but I’d love to see different “sets” of loadout cards with different themes. For example, there could be a theme case with a feudal Japan theme from which a silver card would have a different model, a gold card would have that model but with a fancier helmet (or slightly cooler recolouring) and cobalt… well, you get the gist. Naturally, these cases would either have a supremely rare or completely non-existent drop rate, be purchasable through credits or money and could perhaps be traded for unused loadout cards. Maybe that is being optimistic - even so, that is how I would implement it in lieu of the current system.

On that note, I’m really surprised at how there are only two types of case so far. There is so much room for different varieties of cases with different skin/model sets and I kinda hope they make the most of the system as the game progresses.

Hope that makes sense.

The art team usually doesn’t have that much work to do anyways once a game is finished.

(Backuplight) #9

I’d still rather skins be separated from loadouts, so you don’t have to just settle on the skin that comes with the weapons/augments you want to use. Adding another tier isn’t something I want to see, since it doesn’t really fix anything. As it stands, I assume we’ll get more things like the Alienware skins, through seasonal events and such. Problem being, if that event gives you a case that drops a random loadout, then even if you like the skin you might be stuck with something you’re never going to use.

(Dirmagnos) #10

Mainly depends on a game.
If development, proper development, continues, and new stuff is added, then theres plnety to work to go around. Especially if they do a proper F2P, where most of income comes from cosmetical and non-power-selling stuff.
More skins, more weapons, more perks, more effects, etc

(Nail) #11

bunches of different skins would be great, but you still gotta tell friend from foe and I don’t want giant glowing heads for differentiation

Honestly, that Arty looks badass af.

(InvaderGir) #13

I’d definitely spend some dosh on some custom outfits.

(Sephios) #14

It’ll be nice to have them as a add-on on a Loadout card.

For example, I have this Cobalt Proxy and with the Add-on Punk Proxy, I’ll add it to the card, I keep my loadout and get a new skin.

PS: That’s an example of course, is not that Punk Proxy is a fact.

That Arty is rocking the JC Denton look for sure.

(forlornStake) #17

I’d personally be ready to spend cash on these add-on a loadout card skins as @InvaderGir says. The already available skins just look badass. It would be a shame if we wouldn’t see a similar feature in further game progress.
