different lighmapscale on one terrain

(fraco) #1

Hi,

I have a nice lightmapped terrain, bunch of brushes produced by EasyGen, grouped in one func_group. The terrain is quite large, resulting i a big bsp (the lightmap is big i think) (oh well, big, it’s only 10 Mb). Most of the terrain is unreachable however and can only be seen from a distance. I would like to use a low-rez lighmapscale on the remote parts of the terrain and a higher-rez lightmap on the nearby parts.

I’m thinking of grouping the terrain in two func_groups, same metashader and everything, but a different lightmapscale. Will this give problems? Could I even have the remote part of the terrain vertex-lit?

thnx

You can have multiple terrain entities in a single map. That will work fine.

You can find out how many lightmaps are in the BSP with the -bspinfo command or running -export to export the lightmaps. Or just do the light compile with -v, and will tell you.
