misc_model AND misc_gamemodel

Not quite this specific subject, but ther you go.

Because they are compiled into the BSP, misc_models give you the option of making them solid, but they don’t allow you to use the LOD (Level Of Detail) system which changes the model based on the distance you are viewing it from. The LOD system means you can use high-detail misc_gamemodels but they change to low detail as you move further away. Misc_models can’t do that.

One of our mappers is combining the two - He’s using a misc_model for the clipping around a misc_gamemodel. I made a low-detail version with the clipping shader already applied.

Note that automatic clipping will tend to generate less efficient brushwork than manual clipping.
