Did I just read that you're doing away with execution?

Please explain why before I voice my displeasure.

It was clearly explained in the update post.

Exec is slow, doesn’t fit with the intent of the gamestyle, read, exec servers were underutilized so they can repurpose them to more played game modes.

yes they are getting rid of execution

probably because not many are playing it and it has become a meme tier game mode

But numbers don’t lie, and the truth is that only 5% of players’ time in-game are spent in Execution mode…We’ve realized that we should be concentrating on what makes Dirty Bomb unique.

5% means of the 2500-4200 players per day in DB, 125-210 of them play Execution, while the other 2375 - 3990 are in the other 3 modes (SW/Obj/Ranked). They don’t see catering to 5% to be worth their time and resources and would rather pull those employees off Execution and put them on other projects, as well as removing all Execution servers to save on those costs.

They have tons of updates lined up and new content too. I can’t imagine they’ll be dumping the maps so I can imagine we’re going to see a rework of the maps incoming for other modes soon, and possibly even a new game mode within the year. All of those Execution maps could become KOTH maps with little rework, already.

thanks for the explanation. I feel like the reason why there were less people playing execution is because it didn’t really cater to new players. Most of the higher levels that I play with LOVE execution. When i started playing i thought it sucked, but as i progressed I understood it’s appeal and found myself playing it more and more. I know a lot of people that will be unhappy with this decision. Hopefully new game modes will turn that around.

Or a whole new game is made, and therefore creates a second source of profits for SD.

I think enough people have been bitching about merc and gun balance and Ranked is such a dumpster fire that SD is killing Execution to focus in as much resources as they can into tailoring the game back to where they want it to be. I wouldn’t even be surprised if Execution was originally a Nexon idea.

I can expect the next few updates to be laced with balance changes and with CMM appearing to be the new thing, I bet they’ll be slipping in some core functional changes to pubs (hopefully to better align it with Ranked instead of this weird 5v5/7v7 disparity) and possibly to Stopwatch/Obj as modes. SD appears to have nailed a development process down and beefed up their employee base enough to start overhauling what they have into what they and the community want.

I highly doubt it, the game mode is far simpler than Objective/Stopwatch. There are no relevant spawn timers, short spawns, long spawns, K-ing out, or Spawn killing.

It’s as simple as one life, two objectives and a bomb, which is very friendly to newer players, as its also a very common game mode across all First Person Shooters.

Execution is already in place, it doesn’t take any extra resources to keep it running other than the server that is running it. It also isn’t 1 physical server per 1 game server, servers are visualized and you often have multiple game servers running off of the same machine.

It would cost very little to keep some Execution servers live for people who still want to play it. Instead they are seemingly scrapping a whole mode, and 3 maps that they have already invested time and money into.

It is likely we will see these maps resurface in some way, but for now its pretty lame to see it go without a replacement. We now have 2 game modes which are basically the same game mode, how is that better?

Because they don’t think Execution fits the type of game they’re trying to make and instead of leaving a mode they don’t want to support in the game to possibly have to support in the future from a potential growth in popularity they would rather get rid of it now so people no longer get attached to it.

It saves resources in the long run

I agree that there is more to objective mode, but execution is much harder to play at a lower level. You can play an entire round of objective with a level 5-6 and barely notice they are there, but the lack of skill is highly noticeable in execution. Also, i didn’t even realize that execution existed for the first couple of weeks that i played.

I would have been playing Execution more often if it had more maps/better updates. The maps were reworked a couple times and some of the changes really dulled the gameplay. The biggest issue was playing on the same 3 maps over and over- it got boring after a while. However, I still love Execution and I’m saddened to see it go. I really hope we’ll see KOTH or CTF or something of that nature to replace Execution. I think others probably feel the same way about Execution: the lack of maps was a killing factor.

I suppose the complaining about Execution and the claim that no one plays it also brought it down. I mean, yeah, only 5% were playing it, but it’s not supposed to be the main gamemode. It was a really nice change of pace. D:

The only thing I disagree with is that we have 3 modes. To be honest, we only have 1. Obj/Stopwatch are essentially the same other than some of the timing to them. Ranked is still Stopwatch. :disappointed:

See, Splash Damage being apparently so willing to axe execution makes me wonder… did Splash Damage ever even like execution or was it forced on them by Nexon to increase Dirty Bomb’s appeal?

As far as I know, no Splash Damage game has ever included a mode like execution in the past, and it’s true execution, as a mode, never really gelled well with the rest of the game. How do you balance support rifleman having their marquee ability available every round? It’s tough.

I think that’s fairly obvious to be honest

(SnakekillerX) #15

Doesn’t seem that obvious to me. Just because the mode isn’t as popular as the others doesn’t mean SD didn’t want it to be. This is all speculation.

Then why add it? Try to imagine sitting at a brainstorm session and justify having perma death, instant kills with no risk, and put that in with the current game mechanics, I have a hard time seeing nobody opposing it.

Just because you don’t like the idea, doesn’t mean what you are saying isn’t speculation.

From my perspective, it’s like seeing a movie so dumb you have to wonder how it got made.

IS IT BECAUSE DIRTY BOMB IS RELEASED SOON? WOOOOO

(Sairdontis) #20

Can we please have one thread on this subject? Maybe somehow stickie it temporarily? We get it some are upset, but can we keep that in one thread, please?
