Developers, I Have a Question or Two for You

(Theomachy) #1

Dear Splash Damage,

First of all, thank you, thank you, thank you for making a game that is team-centric. For a while, I feared that team-based shooters were going the way of the dinosaur. Everything I’ve seen and read about Brink puts a smile on my face; considering the deluge of solo-play shooters, that is a miracle. I think Brink is going to be a huge success.

Now, for my questions. How modular is the PC version of Brink? Will clans etc. be relegated to Steam groups only, or do you have your own system in place? I would love to see the ability for custom clan tags and colors down the road’ does your tool set support such a thing? Or, will that be left up to the modding community?

Thanks for your time.

Keep up the great work.

Welcome to the forums, Here Have a :stroggtapir:

Heres your complementary copy of the Brink Bible

Hope your questions get answered, if you want a free forum sig head over to my thread Here

That bible won’t answer the questions you’ve asked. The answers to that is unknown. SD isn’t really responsive to questions like that. They haven’t even answered yet if there will be a SDK for this game.

SD have hinted and said they can’t reveal anything as yet on both the SDK and Clan support. I have a sneaky suspicion that some of the PC specific stuff is not being announced as it is dependant on whether it can get put in before the release (although I’d hope this wouldn’t stop them patching it in later).

Heh
I don’t understand your question, how could clans be made by the game. All ye need is a clan website and that is it. Slap your clans tags on your steam game and voila.

(SockDog) #7

It’s more supporting clans with features/tools than creating clans.

I keep waiting to hear the “Gone Gold” announcement. I am surprised that they are still weighing options as to what to “put on the disc”. I didn’t realize that this stuff really does go to the very last minute - and that that very last minute is still so far away.

(Linsolv) #9

Yeah, we’ve still got 2-3 weeks before they realistically need to go gold.

In-game clan support does things like:

  1. Notify you when a clan-mate is online.
  2. Shows a list of all lan mates and which ones are currently on line.
  3. Color codes your clan-mates in-game identification arrows/halos/whatever a different color than your other team mates so you can see them easier in game.

Typically you get a way to create a clan, invite memers to it and kick them out 9as well as asign the admin position to another person).

It’s a nice touch, more important without steamworks support of course.

From what they’ve said before they need to go through the lovely console certification process which can take some time. During which they’re meant to have plenty enough time for all the PC specific stuff which…

…better get done!

Even if they go Gold many games have a day 1 patch anyway. They have said they respond to demand so if a lot of people ask for a certain feature they will put it in.

(Crytiqal) #13

you mean like in BLOPS, the feature to play without lag?
