DEV STREAM ROUND-UP: 22ND FEBRUARY 2016

(Faraleth) #21

@Mercy In theory the update should make it a lot better by eliminating 3, 4 and 5 man pre-made teams, so everyone will be on a level playing field. Sure, it’s still possible you get put with 4 (or 3, if playing with a friend) terrible people who have no idea what they are doing, as they run around and shoot the walls, buuuut… the update should minimise stomps. The improved player-pool too means that you also should be put with people of equal or very near your skill level…

Of course, this is a hell of a lot of “should”, right now, and only time will tell. In theory though, it will be a lot better :s Fingers crossed!

I’ll give it one more try after the patch I guess, but man I’m scared. :astonished: I’m going to be having war flashbacks for years of being alone on a barren battlefield getting chewed up by turrets, mines, stickies, lions and tigers and bears oh my!
I’ll cross my fingers that this patch will make a difference.

That’s…actually a good point…am I going to have to reprogram my hud? D:
Since they explicitly say Front end, it should not affect the ingame hud at all.
The in-game hud is done through CoherentUI and would probably get swapped too. I’d wager they have porting tools going from one to the other as it would be pretty weird to not do it all at one time.
IIRC they were using 2 different tools for the front end and the ingame UI. Hence why you had such gems like not option to bind Vsays in the FE or no crosshair color ingame.
Yup. The out of game bind screen is done with a different tool and the in-game was done with CoherentUI. I think (not 100% certain) they are finally going to condense all of that and change over entirely to CoherentGT which should not only unify everything and give a consistent UI experience but also hopefully help with latency/frame drop issues that can plague Coherent UI setups that I read about a week or two ago.

This might also fix peripheral issues like ghost binds or binds switching from one bind to another randomly during gameplay (as if two config files are constantly being called on and loaded during particular in-game events) and issues like shooterinput.ini in the user directory not being written to. Which would be nice.

Oh… so that’s what this Coherent UI is… Ok I need to share stuff here than.

I had no idea what this was but from time to time, only after a game when I’m getting back to the lobby or the main menu I get windows error that “Coherent UI” stopped working (win7 64 bit). The game is minimized so I can get back into it. Sometimes this happens after 3-4 games in a row and sometimes doesn’t appear for days.

The latest patch was the last nail in the coffin for my ini files and game performance, so now I’m forced to even set high priority to the game via the task manager for some extra fps. There, I clearly see this Coherent UI running atleast 3 times (separate processes) taking different amount of resources from my system.

Thank you for all the skins you do… for 2 months now I was forced to dumb down my textures and now I finally removed hqmaterials. I don’t see any skins at this point. After every patch I lose 20-30 fps. When I started this game in August I was going with 120 fps almost everything maxed out. CW update was the start of my performance wreckage. Now I barely run the game with 80 fps in fights (most of the times drops to 60) on pure potato newb’s config.

I bet that after this update I will be forced to quit the game… RIP my 600 hours IN GAME time according to the game profile.

@onLooSe Did you miss the part where CoherentGT is lighter and faster then CoherentUI and that performance should see an increase when it is deployed?

We will see if it boosts the in game performance… I don’t have problems in the menus like a lot of ppl complain about. Every patch reduces my in game performance by 20-30 fps. I have nothing left to remove from my cfg files anymore. And I’m not the only one with that problem too. Man even in Planetside 2 which is far more CPU heavy game in battles 100 vs 100 in one location I don’t get such bad performance as recently I do here.

Just a curiosity…do you happen to have an AMD based CPU? Or a laptop of any brand?

(blisteringOwlNest) #29

I’m the same as @onLooSe with performance issues and crashes, and very slow menus. Hopefully this change will push performance up all round. And yes, I have an AMD CPU, though I can’t recall exact stats at the moment.
