Just curious- do map models render any faster or slower than detail brushes, or is the only advantage being able to make them in other programs and insert them in your maps? I ask because it some other games, making things with map models (or equivelant) sometimes rendered faster than traditional methods.
Detail brushes vs map models

Hi…
models vs detail,…hmm…
both are not used in the vis process they don´t produce portals, should not make a difference, lighting depends on how you light the model (shader).
well…models don´t clip. You have to add playerclip manually. I´m not sure about surfaceparm and custinfoparms on models.
In my opinion models make sense for trees, bushes and so on. You build some different models and can easily rotate/stretch them. Using brushes in radiant to create these things and rotate them will often lead to invalid brushes or strange deformations.

I didn’t think it really made a difference. Q3Map2 can autoclip models, though.
I suppose the scaling and stretching is a big advantage for trees and forest growth.
Thank for the reply.
