Is there gonna be demo functionality added?
Really important in helping to build a community as well as find hackers etc
Demos planned?
Server-side demos are likely to be made available to players eventually, client-side demos are not planned/feasible.
I’m not smart can you explain the difference between server side demos and client side demos please :[
client side means you wont be able to record a demo on your computer. Servers will save a demo that has everyone’s POV if im not mistaken.
Client side demos re-produce the client’s network stream and are saved locally on your computer. They are very accurate recreations of the match but can only reproduce your POV during the match.
Server side demos re-produce the server’s network stream and are saved on the server. Their accuracy can vary, it depends on the work the developer does on syncing client information, but they allow you to see the POV of all players in the match.
Ultimately server side demos, done right, give you way more benefits. The downside is that there needs to be a system that will get the demos off the servers so that players can download them.
Finally something I’m willing to pay for. Though then again, selling them doesn’t really add to the virality of the game.

If you link the Server side demo with Steam Launcher and add the necessary delay wouldn’t you have the same spec’ing system as LOL? That would be huge.
I would love to have that specing system and detailed stats and reporting at the end of each match!
Glad to here demos are somewhat on the table, like Anti said if they are done right they can much more benefical than just client side demos. Games that have a good quality replay system; I feel allows them to gain a great media base.
I was probably one of the few people that made use of Brink’s client-side demo feature, even though it was glitchy. I have a folder with hundreds of demos saved.
What I would really like is demo recording that allows me to view any player / move the camera around the map.

Server-side will let you do that, the problem with that is traditionally only a server admin would have access to them. While it’s a good band-aid for competitive gameplay, for movie makers or even just people wanting to watch their gameplay, it won’t be possible.
Opening up server-side demos to anyone who played during that match would be awesome, even as a paid feature (like a “pro” account would have access to this feature, I doubt most people would have need of it, but it’s definitely a value-add).

I would probably pay a subscription fee for such a feature (plus others.)
I don’t know if Splash Damage is still planning to include a deep built-in clan system…but being able to share demos with your clan and annotate them (Place comments and arrows at certain locations and certain times) would be a cool coaching tool.
