Delta Omega: Trinity - Help Wanted

Well, it here it goes. My friend Matt and me, well we are total hardcore gamers and what better way to show that? Make a game! We are making a first person shooter using the Unreal 2 engine, or at least making the closest conversion as possible as we can get it, then creating three huge locations to explore that resemble a location of our world, except it shows it in the darkest ways. Let me get on with the explanation and the recruiting!

To get a feel for what this game will be like, imagine combining Halo, Unreal 2, Unreal Tournament, and even Timesplitters 2 into one awesome first person shooter. To start off, the game will be written with C++ and using the Unreal 2 engine, if possible. We have decided upon three massive locations to create already, a story planned for them already, and even online squad-based missions planned out. The moods of all the locations are meant to be grim and depressing, feeling like street-guerilla warefare in slummish places. The first location is Old Chigago, which is basically an alternate version of Chicago, though its rotting all over, gangs are all over the street, and order was a lost myth. The second location is Dark Rome, an alternate version of Rome, with the deadly diseases all over sweeping the streets, killing left and right, cathedrals now turning into evil gathering places. The last location we have planned for now is New Tokyo, a futuristic Tokyo built atop the slums of the old and rotting Tokyo and its sewers, where dictators in the nice places dominate the people of the slums. From here the story evolves for offline, a nonlinear gameplay style for first person shooter game. You can pick what missions you want, help you want, so you can follow your beliefs, and people will remember those actions, and chain reactions will occur, leading you to eventually choose your side, good or evil, justic or injustice, tyranny or freedom? The online game will have many squad-based missions, like Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Tag the Fragger, or just plain deathmatches. Cooperative play is not yet decided.

As I mentioned before, we will be using C++ as the coding language, The Unreal 2 engine or anything close. Not only will we be using these engines, we will be adding more graphical enhancements whenever we can. One of our strongest points will be creating music and sound effects for the game, for we already have many connections. At first we will make it for Windows only, and if succesful port it to other operating systems.

As you can see, Tokyo or at least a city that will resemble it will be one of the locations. Anyone with experience in this field and is familiar with Tokyo, or at least believes he is, let us know. You can reach my by AIM at the sam screename, by email is ArcticSwan360@energymail.com and by today or tomorrow this should all be registered as a new project of Sourceforge.net If you are interested, rember, we need your help!

you didn`t say specifically what help you need, or what level of skill your applicants should ideally have?

also is this intended to be a free mod, or a demo for a retail game? …and if the latter have you looked into the legal side, engine and editing tools licensing, publishing etc?

and how do you plan to organize the team? over the internet or working from a central location?

if over the internet, have you thought about the different time zones? ie people working at different times of the day, and how that will affect their motivation and progress, when the team leader(s) aren`t around to give them concept ideas, check their progress reports, and answer the multitude of questions that will arise.

I`m assuming you guys are planning to lead the team? …is so, have you any coding, mapping, modeling or texture creation skills yourselves?

people may not want to work for others who dont understand at least some of the technical aspects, since the team leaders will constantly need to be reevaluating, whether their concepts can be built within the constraints of the engines and editing tools, and the intended time allowed... if its a mod team, how do you intend to keep the members motivated over many months or even years of unpaid work?

sorry guys but having a good concept idea, and some ability to make sound effects and music, is way off from even making a large mod, let alone a stand alone game… I think you need to do a lot more research into what is involved, before trying to recruit members, as I suspect you know a lot more about playing games then producing them?

also wouldn`t hurt in future, to proof read your advert and run it through a spell checker before posting, as it would look more professional.

ie, if people can`t be bothered to proof read something as important as an advert, it gives the impression they are lazy and impatient, and will cut corners, which is not something professional developers or serious mod makers (my self being one of the latter) are keen on doing as it makes our work look sloppy.

Halo, Unreal 2, Unreal Tournament, and even Timesplitters 2 into one awesome first person shooter.
You forgot Doom 3 and a few others
Just out of curiosity, if you are planning on using the unreal 2 engine why are you posting in a forum specifically set up for creating maps using another game engine?

Or did unreal 2 come from the quake engine? Quake has spawned so many illegitimate children it’s hard to keep up

Yes we are organizing over the internet. I already have several interested designers, and this is freeware, open source. I’ve looked into licensing and publishing, so if you want to help make this, or at least interested let it be known here.

well good luck to you guys

although personally I prefer modding quake engine games, but someone here might be interested in working on an unreal based engine.

That would be cool. I hope some of you are interested. This is can also be considered modding I guess, since alot of it is editing and level editing, bring ideas together and stuff.

If you want help with an ET MOD then please use the sticky thread “Help wanted for MOD/Various teams.” http://www.splashdamage.com/index.php?name=pnPHPbb2&file=viewtopic&t=3604

This is a level design / map editing forum for help with the game ET not a general spam forum for people working with the Unreal2 engine. If you seriously want help with making of a game with the unreal2 engine then start with a forum which works with the unreal engine. (Its usually a good starting point)

Thread closed.
