Defibrillators: Actually The Best Melee In The Game

(FuzzyRedHamster) #1

Has anyone ever noticed that the defibrillators actually do the most damage in the game on the subject of melee weapons? Fully charged, they deal 100 damage. The closest any other melee can get to that is the katana, at 90 damage per heavy strike. Seriously, why is this a thing?

(ThePigVomit) #2

Full revive on mates, logically full drain on foes.

Can’t run with them charging, so not like it’s a gamebreaking strat.

They are very inefficient combat wise, the amount of damage they do is sure good but most mercs have other 100 HP so by the time you get them to a minimum of 10 you will probably also be at that minimum and will have to switch your weapon for even a split second which could very well mean your death. They are a good laugh though.

Yep. They can be effective against low HP mercs, but otherwise it takes too long to charge them.
The only reason they’re so effective is because they have the least broken hitbox.
Just look at the kukri. It should be an amazing weapon, but it’s so broken that most of its shots miss even if you’re right next to someone.

Even more after a recent update, melee weapons almost never hit when you’re near a wall or when your opponents are slightly below you.

They can be pretty good in ranked though. I’ve had situations where enemies and teammates were right next to each other. Meleeing would likely result in hitting a teammate, but not defibs, lol

katana chopper is over 100 on heavy strike

Lets be honest here. If you really want to melee people correctly you need quickslash and chopper while carrying the objective.

Yea I had a Phoenix who was saying it was strong for sure. So much that he walked everywhere with charged defibs so he could brag about how op it was when he got a kill. While not helping with the delivery.
No surprise we lost as this guy wasn’t healing or reviving anyone LUL

But yea, I once joined a melee only server a long time ago and it was funny to see and learn about it as every medic just kept circling each other with their paddles out hehe (checking forums/wiki for info afterwards etc.)

Anyone know if the bug that allows you to sprint while charging paddles is still a thing?
I feel like I see a lot of Auras running around zapping people to death lately and still feel like they are often moving too fast for it to not be a sprint.

Charging up the defibs will technically prevent you from sprinting. This pretty much makes the defibs a terrible melee weapon, as mobility as well as good flanking skills are absolutely required if you expect to be able to get at melee range. If defibs were such a good melee weapon, you would have seen much more medics using defibs to actually earn kills. As it is, defib kills are more a way to bully a bad opponent than anything else.

Also, don’t expect melee to be actually viable in this game. There’s a good reason why Phantoms who use their Katana as their main weapon are considered as a waste of a team slot by most players here.

If I see a fallen teammate icon inside the Barrier Room of Underground SOMEONE is getting zapped.

There was (maybe still is?) a bug allowing you go back to your regular movement speed and even sprint while still charging the paddles, while I’ve never been one for abusing bugs I can’t remember how to do it. But its possible people are abusing this and sprinting around with aura and defibs which is a bit OP. Does anyone know if they actually fixed the bug?

Here, I found a video of it.

EDIT: Actually, according to a post on that video, it was still working as of 1 month ago, so its likely that the people you see running around debif owning with Aura are probably abusing this bug.

strongest melee weapon is the objective container.

SD did that on purpose for LOLs… and it’s very LOLing to get kills with it.

The hitbox of that thing is worse than the stiletto though…

Only way I could make melee viable is the 181 tornado agent card for Sparks, and the B84 tornado rifleman card with Kira (the one that has quickdraw and the katana) so I can shoot one burst and quickly finish them off with a quick melee attack.

While we are talking about this, does get up and chopper increase the defib damage?
Because Sawpapa’s SM72 technical operative has both.

That’s indeed a bug. Somebody reported recently it as far as I know. If you can’t find it in the bug report section, please do a thread about it.

(Noir) #15

I have faced a high level guy playing Aura Defibs only, abusing this bug. The whole games. Two days in a row. I think he might still being running with defibs out as I am typing.
So yes, I believe the bug is still “working”.

(frostyvampire) #16

But you need to charge them up and can’t sprint while charging

(Szakalot) #17

@DefaultSettings please report the person to the devs.

high levels players who were found to abuse glitches in game have received severe punishments in the past. this type of behavior is definitely unacceptable and bad for the game

It looks like you actually can.

I filed a new bug report.
