deeply trouble, can't see my misc_gamemodel (solved)

(Wezelkrozum) #1

the subjectname says it:

  • i can make a misc_gamemodel in the .map file but if i compile it, i can’t see it if i play the map :frowning:
  • i created a alertentity command but than he says: can’t find alertentity aa-gun1, so the bsp-project haven’t created the misc_gamemodel :?
  • a misc_model works fine, but i must have a skinfile for the model and than i need a misc_gamemodel. so, i’ve a big problem.

(cpthank) #2

maybe u need to try make it with script_mover

use origin and model2 :stuck_out_tongue:

(kamikazee) #3

Hmmm, tried to check the compile log for anything out of the ordinary? Maybe the BSP just doesn’t get built.

(Wezelkrozum) #4

i found a weird thing:
at the description of the gamemodel stays:
md3 placed in the game at runtime (rather than in the bsp)

at the description of the model stays:
Model that will be compiled into the map.

what’s the difference?

(nUllSkillZ) #5

Use model for static objects and gamemodels as moving objects (as far as I remember).

(DerSaidin) #6

Yep.

models are baked into the BSP (during compile)
Saying they are “baked” means they pretty much become the same as brushes
Having lots of these models will make the .bsp larger (even if its the same model lots of times)

gamemodels are entities added at runtime (when the map loads)
Having lots of these gamemodels will increase your entity count (thats bad, because theres a limit)

Use models whenever you can.

(kamikazee) #7

Well, the misc_gamemodel entity itself is included in the BSP, but the model is only loaded at runtime.

(DerSaidin) #8

Yes.

(Wezelkrozum) #9

but why don’t display he the misc_gamemodels?
and the misc_models display he :x

(kamikazee) #10

Now I think of it: check if the origin of the model is above ground, otherwise it doesn’t get drawn.

(Wezelkrozum) #11

kamikazee you’re the man
THANNK YOU !!! :stuck_out_tongue:

—TOPIC SOLVED—

(kamikazee) #12

You see, if we all guess long enough, somebody will eventually be so lucky to suggest a valid solution.

Just to add to this, the origin can be inside another brush, as long as that brush is detail and not structural.
