Dedicated Servers: Reserved spots?

Any chance we could get the ability to set reserved slots?

Try the following in your server.cfg file:

si_privateClients “2”
g_privatePassword “yourpassword”

This seems to work. We have 16 player servers with 2 reserved slots. It remains at 14 until a player types the following in console (Alt-Ctrl Tilde key) before joining the server:

g_privatePassword “yourpassword”

Let me know if it works for you.

Note: It will show 16 slots in the browser but it will be maxed out at 14 regular players (if you reserved 2 slots) until someone joins using the password.

I was kinda hoping something like it will fill up to 16 public slots, but if we try to join it will kick to make room.

That is the functionality I am looking for. Right now, if I need to get on a full server I have to do a restart. Very annoying for the people that frequent the server.

Just FYI you don’t have to restart the server to free up a slot, you can kick a player:

    So if you’re using RCON directly, you’d use that and choose the # of a player you want to kick. Or if you’re ingame, you’d open up console, use “admin kick” + space + tab to see player numbers, then type in “rcon admin kick #” and hit enter.

My server is hosted by a hosting company - I don’t have direct access to it. Now, if there is a program that will give me access to it, by all means - help!

I’ve seen games in the steam server broswer that were at 18/16 or 17/16 slots, so there must exist, somewhere a command or plugin that’s allowing it for Brink.

And yes, if there’s an rcon program that I could use outside of the game to free up a spot for myself, besides the reserved slots system they have by default, that would be good to know about as well.

Ah. I was unaware that you were not supplied with an RCON client. Perhaps you should contact your provider to see if they provide remote RCON access in some form. I know for GameServers.com the BlackOps server I helped admin had remote RCON access via a tool released on Steam. Perhaps your provider has something similar or something web-based for Brink.

Do you, by chance, know the name of this rcon tool from Steam Pantalones? Maybe I could recommend it to my GSP. I’ve tried HLSW so far and that doesn’t seem to work.

I don’t know of any way it is possible but I saw my server go to 17 and then 18 at one point, but it looked like the server kicked the players as soon as they got in. Not really sure.

I can confirm that this actually works but the only way is to select free play -> direct connect -> and fill in the required info.

If the server is full it will kick a player off your server to allow you to join.

Strange. I attempted this on my full server and it still said the server was full. I’ll double check my cfg and attempt again tonight.

works as stated, use the commands, and if full… it will kick someone to make room for you

It actually was called “Black Ops Remote Console” and was released via Steam. My guess is it was something developed by Treyarch specifically for their server, so probably not a lot of help for you there.

I’m working with a friend to help admin a server he’s rented, and I’ve asked him to look into whether there’s an RCON client available from the provider he’s using. I’ll bump this thread if I ever get any info on the topic.
