"Ded. Home-Server" - possible on PC ??

I don´t have any experience with that so here´s my question:

I have an unused Desktop Comp and i was wondering if its possible to set up an Ded Server on this machine.

  • Would a 16.000 kBit/s connection be enough to handle the traffic ?
  • If not, what are the requirements bandwidth wise ?
  • What are the System requirements for a dedicated server ?
  • Does it work anyway ?

Anyone knows about this or has experience ?

16.000 kbps in both directions? That would be OK.

But it sounds quite like an ADSL2 connection with 16.000 kbps down and only 1024 kbps up. :wink:
In this case, your upstream MIGHT be a bottleneck, when hosting a server for 16 (or more) players. Additionally, the latency will rise dramatically, the more your upstream is used, since the available overhead (unused bandwidth) is not enough.
