Decals and Z Fighting

(Noobanator) #1

Is there a way to eliminate Z fighting in the editor? I have created several different decals by putting the polyoffset code in the shader, but that doesn’t eliminate the Z fighting in the editor. Is there an equivilent qer_ tag?

No, there isn’t.

And it shouldn’t be much of a problem so long as the decals work fine in game.

Why, does it really irk you or something? :smiley:

You can hold <alt> & <shift> and click to select different layers if there are overlapping brushes.

I don’t have much luck with this either. I’ve resorted to using a 1-unit thick brush of nodraw with my texture on top of it.

The cause of z fighting is two or more faces of a brush sharing the same coordinates - so im guessing you have 2 brushes occupying the same space.

Delete all but one and you should be fine.

@Danyboy

I think you are little bit offtrack. The orginal question was how to eliminate decal z- fighting in Radiant. So there SHOULD be 2 brushes occupying same space. I have used the same method than ifurita just create 1thick brushes that aren’t inside other walls.

oh soz - missed the decal bit.

But just as a good point in mapping no two faces should ever merge - decals are either tiny tiny brushes like you said placed on top or i think the better way - done via textures
