Ok, there’s a dude down at the Bethesda forums http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1173140-pre-orders-from-walmart-amazon-and-steam/
Who says he spoke with the manager of his local Gamestop, and that he said the pre-order bonuses (or some of them, at least) were unlock-able later in the game. I realise there must be a million threads about this, but it’s just for that one guy at the Bethesda forums’ benefit. There’s quite a bit of confusion about it.
Thanks, SD.
Dear Splammage, please elaborate on this issue
Me too, I’ve heard it from many sides of the story. That’s why I’m asking for elaboration.
Pretty sure I’ve read the opposite.
Yup, see here.
You will most likely not get an answer for this, since both SD and Bethesda want players to get pre-orders. Why would they tell you anything that would deter you from getting one, regardless if it’s true or not?
Yeah, I figured, but you might as well ask, eh? I just don’t wanna pre-order Psycho if I can get the Psycho stuff in game when I could pre-order Fallout and get something you can’t get in game.
Chances are, if you can unlock one of them, you can unlock all of them, so if you are worried about not getting the Fallout gear, pre-order that one.
Fair point, but in that case I’m torn between Fallout and Psycho.
Which one are you getting, assuming you are pre ordering. I would imagine you are, being the compendium king and all.

why do people care so much about the preorder outfits? there’s a gazillion of outfit combinations you can make out of the box. why limit yourself to one certain type and look the same like everyone else?
Simple, These items will be unobtainable after pre-order. During the initial period after launch no one is really going to care all that much, since 90% of the community will have these items any way. As time progresses two things will occur
- A portion of the population consisting of those who pre-ordered will not be online as much or quit.
- At the same time, assuming the game is successful, the population of players will continue to grow, but will bring with it more pre-order items.
Result:
The items will be come rarer then any other and among the online community.
Even in a game that boasts to have an immense level of customization options allowing players to create there own unique persona using a combination of cosmetics and weapons, there are those who seek to still stand out even more, and they only way to do that is if you have something that is rarer and unobtainable by any one else.
Further more, If there is a trade/market place system in the game it can make these seemingly average items very useful. People will pay high to add them to their collection; and will pay any where from other highly sought after items, to even real world money transactions.
Example:
In the Team Fortress 2 trade world, there are cosmetic Hats and items offered as pre-order bonuses that come from other games (Sam & Max) some of these have become extremely valuable, to the point that some of them are set at a standard price of $150 each as high as $1000 has been sold for one of a kind developer items. This only happens in games that are popular tho like TF2 with a daily base of around 80k daily populated by around 9k.
(my own personal friend pre-ordered Home-Front just because he knew he could sell the TF2 pre-order hat bonus. The steam bonus included: Home-Front, Metro 2033, and a TF2 Solider hat. He paid $50 for the pre-order, and has already sold the Hat for $45 Via paypal. He got 2 games for $5)
Summery:
This is about the E-P****
Read this and note the xbox cell:
Conclusion
There are a couple types of players(and people) in the world, Some that Just play for fun(to be admired), and others like myself who also enjoy a shallow sense of false superiority amongst those we game with(which if kept in balance is well enough so long as we don’t let ourselves become actual dicks)
Note to the thread topic:
These are EXCLUSIVE Pre-Order bonuses.
This means there is no other way to obtain them(aside from possible in game trading amongst those who already have them) except to buy them from there corresponding retailers during the pre-order period. If the developer was to change that after the fact of selling the game under these agreed terms it could be defined as false advertizing, and could be held liable by both the retailers and the customers if the issue was pushed.
NOTE: how on this steam pre-order brink offer it states:
"Kit out your Brink character with new and exclusive customization options. Containing an exclusive weapon, a new scope attachment, a slick combat mask, and a unique “Dogtag” body tattoo, the Spec Ops Pack will put you amongst the Ark’s most elite warriors as you fight over the future of humanity’s last refuge.
Exclusive weapon: the “Hockler” Machine-Pistol
Exclusive “GreenEye” Combat Optical Scope
Exclusive Security “Sloani” Combat Mask
Unique Dogtag body tattoo"
Exclusive

Exclusive typically means not with other things or not including other things.
All I know is that they better make them available later. Hell, I’d be okay if I had to pay up to 3$ for one set. This way pre-orderers can get the things sooner (possibly use them for months) and don’t have to pay as much.
I am still pre-ordering tho.
Well… I don’t see the point either. Every time there’s preorder stuffs like that, different from store to store,
I start by making fun of people whining about not being able to have it all and planing which store they must
buy the game from to get the most of it, then I seek where it’s cheapest and buy from it, period.
For Brink, I want to play it Day one, I’m so impatient I can’t keep myself from refreshing two or three time per hour a couple of site to get any info right when they’re out, I don’t care about the price, so I’ve pre-ordered it on Steam.
I already ordered mine on amazon prime… but honestly when it comes down to it. There’s so much awesome stuff IN brink that one pre-order character and gun are not really a big deal to me. I just want to have it when it comes out. That’s why I’m ordering it on prime and hoping it accidentally comes early like some of my other games do from time to time. So I can play offline for half a day before hopping on with everyone else when it goes live.
Confirmed (again) on Twitter that they have no plans to bring pre-order packs to the masses after the game has been released:-
