Dear Nexon: Am I allowed to play this game?

(PaveMentman) #1

For those who don’t know, Nexon is notoriously known for region-locked servers and games in general. This is well known thing for us players living in European-region who have playing games published by Nexon ever since the very early (Open) Beta of [I]Maple Story[/I (or, only Maply Story], like in my case).
When Nexon introduced their European-subsidiary / “portal” in 2007 alongside European Maple Strory-server(s), they offered a account transfer, since their decision was to have region-specific clients and “portals” (wesbites, etc (same model was adopted by companies such as Wargaming.com & Riot Entertaiment)). However, for most of the players this system didn’t function at all; many of the players actually lost their account(s) permamently, and customer service was no help at all, which especially angered players who had paid for the cash-shop-items.
I personally was one of those players to to whom the account transfer never worked, yet I still retained the possibility to play over USA-portal of Maple Story. However, as soon as I tried to login into (USA-version) Combat Arms, their system noticed my IP-address being European / Nordic, which apparently also engaged an automated process to completely disable my account (since the trasfering process-chance had already expired “long time ago”) alongside activating “You’re from Europe; Go to European-portal”-nagging pop-up.
I even contacted the (USA-)customer support about this event without ever getting a reply…

Having told the expriences with Nexon and heard about Dirty Bomb being published also by Nexon, my question remains: Am I allowed to play this game?
To be able to play the game is just a start though: Am I allowed to play freely on any server and/or Region? If so, is any account enough? Do I need to make a separate Nexon-account or is Warchest-account enough? Should I be playing with either Euros or USA-Dollars (because even today the conversion rates can be very skewed)?

For example, will Dirty Bomb (or as Nexon mroe tha likely likes to “cencor” this into Extraction) have a similiar account and server such as Global Agenda, in which players have asingle account/player-name that carries over all playable characters and they’re able to jump / matchmake between regions / servers? Or will this system be similiar to other Nexon and Wargaming.com-titles in which everyone needs to have region / portal-specific game-clint alongside portal-specific account and players are only able to interact only with the players in that specific release of the client.exe-file?

Just some of my concerns regarding to these (“old”)-news of Dirty Bomb being published by Nexon

I have no experience of Nexon personally, but everything I’m hearing about them so far is all negative. :frowning:

Maybe I’m just old fashioned but the best brands are built around excellent customer service, and not shooting them in the face (excuse the pun).

I’ve been to restaurants where the food was cold, but the service was amazing (refund of cold meals and a round of drinks for everyone), now normally I’d never revisit such a place, but due to the customer service they get another chance to redeem themselves.

Hey! I know this guy too! People need to stop following me around the internet.

Off Topic: Oh Fancypants! I just now recognized you. You’re a mod on the Firefall forums, aren’t you? You’re like a celebrity now!

On Topic: I personally have minimal experience with Nexon, and yes, everything I’ve heard about them is negative. But, to be fair, generally speaking, those who are disappointed are more likely to talk about their experience than those who have not. If you’re content, you tend to not go on the forums and say, “My experience has been okay,” but if you’re upset, you’re more likely to get on the forums and say “Everything sucks.”

'Tis the way of the forums. Although I would hope they have a solution ready for OP’s problem.

Nexon will be running a unified back-end for Extraction. In other words, there won’t be invisible walls between their regions, as may have been the case with Nexon’s past titles.

It’s not rocket science, PaveMentman. The announcement clearly stated that Nexon America would be publishing the game in America, Australia, new Zealand and Europe. You’re included in that. Notice how the announcement said Nexon America. Unlike Maplestory and Combat Arms, Nexon Europe will not be publishing the game in Europe.

So, you have nothing to worry about. But next time save yourself some typing and read the announcement properly
