Dealing With Quitters

(DarkangelUK) #141

Agreed, the problem quitters cause is magnified by the fact that said quitter can’t be replaced. Solve one problem and slightly ease another.

(tokamak) #142

Also don’t let the win/loss count to players who only just joined to replace a quiter.

(3Suns) #143

Excellent point. Not being able to join mid-match means that when someone quits, that particular round/match is for the most part ruined. And yes, seldom did I even notice whether people had quit or joined in the MW2 matches (though in that game, everyone is just playing by themselves anyway, just trying to get killstreaks lol).

(Szakalot) #144

true,
Win should only count if your staying for the whole thing.
Loss as well, but that would also need ‘left in the middle of the round’ stat.

Unfair?
The only way to prevent abuse, that is.

(tokamak) #145

Yeah I’d like a statistic which counts the times left during a game. Or is that too negative? Other way around then, ‘Full rounds played’. Even attach an achievement or feat of strength to it.

(BioSnark) #146

What’s with the debate about statistics, again? I thought people round here didn’t like them and they’d be mostly cut from Brink.

(tokamak) #147

Oh I like them. It’s just that the ladders were having a perverse effect.

(Ten Wolves) #148

Isn’t Brink designed to bribe players to behave with exp point rewards? Disconnecting could mean the forfeiture of exp gained from the round that was quit.

Or halved, maybe. For the involuntary disconnects.

(tokamak) #149

Simply reward all the xp at the end of the match. That would add a new factor of addictiveness.

(Voxie) #150

Can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic, but that doesn’t go hand in hand with Brink’s all carrot, no stick approach. I have a vague feeling that I’m repeating myself from what was said in this thread a few months back, but isn’t bonus XP for staying till the end of the round ideal?
By that I mean encouraging players to stay without threatening to take away what they’ve achieved during their session – “Are you sure you want to quit just yet? You’ll miss out on the n amount of Bonus XP you’ve accumulated this round”.

(tokamak) #151

I wouldn’t call holding off the carrot until the match is done a stick.

(DarkangelUK) #152

Yeah there’s no punishment per se, it just means there’s no reward.

(Voxie) #153

Alright, let’s call it a whip then.

(Donnovan) #154

So, you compare morality with a guy leaving the game because his team is losting?

(SockDog) #155

Because what you really want to do is encourage a rage quitter to stay on a server they’re raging on?!? Not that I think threatening them with XP loss is going to be effective or appreciated. It also penalises those people who do have genuine reasons to have to quit.

Stick vs Stick. You join and then habitually quit mid match, then you get a temp ban from online, consider it the penalty box or cool down period. Maybe the length of a standard match.

(signofzeta) #156

lol, do you want a rage quitter to quit, or do you want a rage quitter’s morale affect your team? I don’t know man, tough decision.

Case in point? Atlanta Hawks in the 2010 second round Playoffs.

Thats awful, imagine looking for a nice server and waiting 20 minutes between each attempt.

(.Chris.) #158

Yeah silly idea, am I only one who doesn’t seem to care if people leave mid match? And aren’t they meant to be replaced by bots anyway in Brink?

(namlot) #159

I’m with this ^

(tokamak) #160

I do care if people leave mid-match.

They’re not losing any xp, they just don’t gain anything if they leave.
