DBN will be announcing its Launch Cup with dates and more details within the next few days, so dust off the mouse and keyboard and start scrimming! I would like to open up this discussion thread regarding the potential schedule formatting of our first cup.
Cup format options [NOTICE: All cups will occur bi-weekly]
(For international participation, these will likely need to occur Saturday or Sunday at the standard time of 4-5pm GMT)

One day cup (6+hrs, 20 team sign-up limit)

Two day cup (larger sign-up limit, less time per day)

Two separate cups, Invite Cup and Open Cup, both played on separate days (Open cup winner advances to Invite)

I would consider option 3 as the best option for the moment, although option 4 could become possible in the future if we need to expand the team limits. At that point however something such as a league format would likely replace cups altogether, as well as regional leagues. For the Invite Cup we would select the top 15 teams from past tournaments to play in the first Invite Cup, while the Open Cup would receive a slightly higher team cap of around 20+. The winners of the Open Cup would advance to the Invite Cup for a chance to secure a spot, after which a losers bracket would help to determine which team would fall back into Open.
The goals for our first cups are to (A) Ensure equality of entertainment and accommodation, ie the idea of separate cups (B) Minimize cup duration. If this were to occur we would most likely have the Invite Cup play on Saturday and the Open Cup on Sunday. We will also be covering all cups and events on twitchtv (more discussion on this in the future, ie multi-streams and maximizing coverage).
Also to note, there will be open discussions on our mumble with the DBN admins that all are welcome to participate in and give feedback. The exact date and time that these will take place will be made available soon. Until then feel free to idle or use mumble.dbnation.gg : 64738.
