#DB2016 Video Contest Winners! [RESULTS]

(Faraleth) #1

Thank you to everyone who participated in the #DB2016 video contest, organised by PixelTwitch and myself. Without further-ado, here are the winners!

First place ($50 prize money):

Supa -

Runner ups (In no particular order):

Renpsy -

Vibration -

Mortemus -

MattMG -

All runner-ups get to choose a merc OR elite case A&B. All will be contacted via the platform they submitted their contest entry (ie. Dirty Bomb forums / Dirty Bomb Subreddit / Splash Damage forums).

This contest was pretty difficult for us all to decide who truly deserved to win, as all entries were fantastic and I really hope we can do more community contests like this in the future. We got waaaaay more entries than we anticipated (which is bloody fantastic!), all with some interesting ideas that were well presented.

Thank you, everyone!

He posted his vid 1 day late.
Congratz to all the runner ups and the winner @Supa

(Supa) #4

Wow, I am genuinely surprised! I didn’t think for a second I would actually win, just took the contest as an opportunity to share my opinions with everyone else.

Many thanks to both Pixel and Faraleth for organizing the event. These are the kind of events that really bring the community together so I am happy that we all got the chance to get our thoughts out there.

(Faraleth) #5

@Supa it was well deserved dude! Your video just had the perfect balance of discussion, good presentation and clear thought and preparation in it  I’ll contact you shortly in regards to your prize!

(Supa) #6

Thanks!

(gg2ez) #7

Great job Supa! Couldn’t of said it better myself, but let’s be honest, we’re gonna have to make it to #DB2020 before those things happen.

I didn’t even want my vid to win so that’s why I posted it 1 day late. It’s just a parody bro.

(Jostabeere) #9

I don’t know why, but I start disliking -Mortemus. It’s like a beeping in my ear.

(Kristin_Cool) #10

I see sry thx i agree he is rightful winner than!

(Faraleth) #11

@Kristin_Cool sure, there were a few videos with higher video quality and production… but that wasn’t all we were judging on. If the contest was “Highest Video And Sound Quality Wins”, then what’s the point in even setting a video topic?

The reason the winning video won was largely based on it’s actual content and discussion, along with presentation and clear delivery, as opposed to production values. Of course, production value was something that videos were graded upon too, which is why we made the runner-up’s a thing (originally, it was just going to be 1 prize for 1 winner), because we felt people deserved to be rewarded for their efforts.

As an extract from the original contest thread, we said:
Contest judging:
The contest will be judged after the contest closing date by a panel of judges. The following factors will be taken heavily into consideration:
[] Creativity
[
] Entertainment factor
[] Clear presentation of ideas/reasons
[
] Professional execution

Video flow

(Supa) #12

Sheesh.

(Amerika) #13

Heh, @Supa’s video can’t be played through an embedded link. Mistake @supa?

Also, in regards to demo recording, that isn’t enabled by default mostly because due to the rapid release cycle of DB feature updates, demos would be broken during many (not all) patches.

They already have tech in the game that is recording demos from the server’s perspective (you can see DemoSpecRecorder listed as a spec) that will eventually let us download those and use them for movie making. So we can see the game not just from our perspective but from everyone’s!

So it’s not only going to be a feature but it will hopefully be better than what you can get in your example video from ET.

(Supa) #14

Wuuuuuut. It should be working, Embedded is enabled on all of my videos. Double checked and it is on, so not sure what the deal is with that.

Well yes, I am aware that the engine can do it. I didn’t mean implementing it during the frequent update stage, I was referring to the full release of Dirty Bomb. Should have made that more clear, I suppose.

Thanks for the info, though. I wasn’t exactly sure what the DemoSpecRecorder was so I appreciate you explaining it!

(Mrarauzz) #16

I knew supa was going to win, but because it clearly was more concise than the rest. But funnyblackman vid brought up those hard hitting topics I feel none of us did XD .

(Supa) #17

FUNNYBLACKMAN without a doubt would have won if he uploaded within the timeframe. He knew it would be a shutout victory so he gave the rest of us a chance at the prize. What a gentleman!

No problem. I agree with what you said during that part and the rest of your video. I just wanted to give you some extra information you might not have been aware of is all. What you said still stands…it’s a very important piece that needs to be done well to help the longevity and even the legacy of Dirty Bomb long after it’s gone. Well done IMO!

(gg2ez) #19

Seeing as the videos were judged based on their level of discussion, it’s not surprising. Supa may of not had the prettiest video, but he definitely had the most thorough, and thoughtful video.

Also, how rude.

(MatteMG) #20

Congratulations to the Winner and all the other Runner Uppers :stuck_out_tongue: Hard Work does Pay Off!
