DB Wish List - Custom sights (Brink style weapon modification)

(Gwarh) #1

I know this prolly won’t happen, but I’d love to be able to customise my iron sights on a weapon. It’s sticktly a personal opinion of the sigh aesthetics, but I like a beefy Iron looking Iron sight, not the think green sliver some of the iron sights currently rock

What I’d really like is the Brink (Black Light Retribution) style weapon customization in this game, though that would take allot of work I would imagine, as well as possibly changing game play with that much customization. Though I’d also say the game is so damn fast paced and twitchy that an awesome loadout can go for naught if someone catches you unawares.

Doesn’t really fit this game honestly…I mean there’s so many things that you’d have to consider. Even without taking into account that iron sighting basically has no purpose, you’d also have to take into account the following.

  1. First of all, each gun would need it’s own set of parts. One the things I didn’t like about Blacklight balance wise and artstyle wise, was that all the parts were interchangeable. Like a Sniper Rifle barrel on a freaking SMG.

  2. There would need to be distinct roles and jobs for the guns to fill for it to work, and can’t let the customization rules allow the guns to overstep. For example, an Assault Rifle should be the king of midrange, but outside that, a Combat Rifle should beat it at long range, burst rifle should beat it up close, and the Shotgun and Sniper Rifles should be all about those one hit instant kills to be relevant. It’s a lot of variables.

  3. Then of course, the parts themselves. What should you customize? Just 3 parts? Barrel, Reciever, and Stock? What about muzzles? Sights? Attachments like Grips, Extended Mags, etc.

There’s just way too much in there to consider, and I think Brink’s issue was it tried so hard to appeal to everyone that it ultimately satisified nobody.

If it were up to me, it’d prob be something like…

4 classes, Recon, Medic, Engineer, Soldier

Each class has it’s own set of abilities, gadgets, and some of them have weapon specific to them. Like the Sniper Rifle is only available to the Recon, and the Grenade Launcher is only available to the Soldier. Everyone can do things like repair objectives or Revive, but the Medic can revive almost instantly, AND heal you, and the Engineer can cut down time to repair objectives and even get certain resources available. Like a machine gun nest or a terminal turret to be set up in a specific spot.

Gun customization would be very careful to allow guns to be tailored for specific playstyles and builds. Like an Assault Rifle that’s low on damage but basically a bullet hose would be great for a speedy character, while another can be great for great recoil control and high damage per shot.

This sort of thing though would basically be a new game, it wouldn’t be Dirty Bomb anymore. So I can’t see them doing anything like this unless they start from scratch, sorry mate.

I just wish this game would have more customization, not just one loadout card covers, guns, cosmetic, augments and such.

I hear ya @Watsyurdeal , but one can dream.

i’d be happy if they just went hog wild on skins and variant looks for gear and weapons.

But I do hate the way the majority of Iron Sights look in the game. It looks to me like a graphic glitch with the slim green vertical line about 1 pixel thick, replacing a proper iron sight pip.

@XavlenH5 it is early in the games life span, so who knows what it will be like in say 1 year.

I’d hope the maps total would have doubled to 10 by then. New Game modes, all the Mercs released, and the ability to mix and match parts for any loadout card you’ve unlocked. (The last one is another “wish list” for me).

actually i wouldnt be opposed to sight customization… some open aperture sights like the bishlock’s for rifles and smgs would be nice…

I wouldn’t be surprised if they introduce alternative sights at a later point. Someone posted the Artstation page of one of the 3d modelers.
It had images of some of the weapon models and not only showcased skins we haven’t seen yet, but also several weapons had sights that differed from the ones they have now.

Also pretty much every primary has a picatinny rail in a place where sights would fit.

On the other hand, that could be remnants of an older draft, so who knows.

it was really nice when we were able to customize our skins in early closed beta
