Im confused.

Where are we?

Its been 2 years soon.

From 1 to 100, how finished is the game?

The game will never be finished, at least that’s the plan (SaaS).

As to how far is it from release state, I don’t think it has ever been an ever increasing percentage of readiness, there will always be peaks and troughs, where things are added, other things are removed, plans change, some direction adjustments are bigger than others of course. For example if they didn’t add any new stuff and only fixed the broken stuff then perhaps it’s 90% ready, if they finished the what’s being worked on now as well then maybe only 75%, or if everything that they want to add was done then say 60%.

I’d much rather that they are allowed to flow organically and naturally approach a point when everyone feels its a good time to share it with the world, rather than announce a fixed date then rush to get everything done in crunch, culling important features left and right only to end up with what everyone will know is a halfassed rush job, will take months to iron out all the problems and then still be the game that “had great potential.” There are plenty of examples of games that have been rushed to a public release that have suffered because of it.

Also you really believe November 2012 is when development first started, if anything the version numbers (13988 > 38182) should be an indication that this isn’t the case.

TLDR I hope no-one knows the answer to this, and if think they do they can think again.

There is something between “fixed date” and “when its done”, and its called planning, project management, evaluation and so forth. :stuck_out_tongue:

To explain:

Projects can get stuck, for example doing lots of work, like a train rushing its wheels, but not moving / not making progress.

So for example:

How are things going with DB? Are they going as planned? What is the plan?

If the plan is to finish “these 100 things”, to get reasonable done before release, then how many of those 100 are reasonable done at the moment?

An answer could be for example:
Things are going good, we are set/reasonable done with lots of things, while still in progress for other things, and some we are not sure of on how to proceed.

I am asking this in sept 2014.
Lets think about if I asked how its going in sept 2015, and we are still in closed beta then, would my question be more “legit” to SD then?

Imo its fairly ok to ask how things are going planwise.

No. Thats the date from the oldest thread from the “DB Announcements, News and Updates” forum.

Didn’t seem to me like you were inquiring as to how things were going, but rather a percentage completion based on two years of development.

The state of play posts are nice how’s it going thingies, maybe it’s time for another one of those.

I think so too.

I’ve read some of those, and they seem to focus on details of the month, and leave out the big picture / general progress of the game as whole.

I’d appreciate if general progress of the game was mentioned some in “state of play” posts. Otherwise it can, for me atleast, seem we are struggling to a goal, but dont know where on the map, we are on getting there, and that can be a bit unsettling to feel.

If I remember correctly, SD said that the alpha/beta does take longer place than they thought. Not sure if it was the alpha or the beta

When did they say it took longer than they thought? Oh ok. Can you find out?

Was there any specifics or pointing in general directs of what caused need for more time?

I have a feeling that “image” is unfortunally involved in matters such as these. Looking strong, and not asking for help, could maybe help with image of being big/buff/leader-type, but perhaps not help with the actuall problem, if there was any. But this is perhaps a bit off topic, and I could be completely wrong. heh

My main question or request, is to have some more updates on how the game is coming a long, and where roughly it is in planning / timeline

Cant wait to test the 3rd gamemode.

Pumped to test the fast pace OLTL mode!

Great change of pace!!

It was fun with out objectives or anything… Maps are so small that they only take a few minutes a round.

Would be interesting to see if they put an OBJ in the middle or sides or in a random location.

Like set dyno in a random location the first to find it and set it has a huge advantage. That would be crazy addicting! The randomness of the obj would make for epic first kills and defends and defuses…

Currently still in alpha.

game will never get out of this stage

I feel the thing that this game really needs before release is a lot (!) more maps.
