DB Lore and Merc Bios?

(h5000) #1

I’m pretty sure that has been ask already, but is there any Lore behind DB or the Merc’s like Bios ? And if not could the Community provide something like that? Or do you think that its something DB just doesn’t need? I would love tho hear what the Community and the Dev’s think about that ^^

There is this cool comic:

But the lore behind the Bios. What a heroic and grand story that determined the future of holy bias of karma. On a rainy tempest dark night 1975, california, holy archbishop Gary Kildall received gods message from the heaven. “Son, you need to create a Bios to obviate future error codes preventing new generation to play Dirty Bomb” “I shall give you this sacred mission, do not fail me, or there wont be no Javelin”. Holy archbishop Gary Kildall shaked in fear when the thunderstorm and loud grave voice fades into the darkness. Archbishop had never heard anything about Javelin so he needed to find clues in old dusty sacraments. He worked day and night, but no matter what he did, or tried, he got no error messages on post. “God, the holy spirit, father and son of trinity, this is devils work, why my CPU overheated message does not show? What is Javelin?” prayed archbishop Gary Kildall. “You shall code bios system configuration panel colour to blue and use a silver stone as a Bios battery to measure the time and pain. Javelin is your worst nightmare” rumbled god out of nowhere. After that Bios was all nice and set running. All the ram modules and stuff start beebing and giving you these vague heuristic error codes. The future got their computers working and played Dirty Bomb happily ever after.

Sorry, couldnt resist.

Sooo um i still cant find the story behind proxy eye. They slapped it on her with no back story. They ended the commic before she got it.

@Mc1412013

Pheonix and Turtle strapped Proxy down and let Aimee carve out her old eye to wear as an earing. After that, They did the surgery to put her new eye in, had to take it out again because they forgot to turn it on, and then stuffed it in again.
SD didn’t release that part of the comic because they didn’t want to draw all of that.

I wasn’t referring to the Comics actually, I thought more about the stuff that happened in London, like why it’s all radiated and stuff. And some stuff about the Mercs like Motivation Background story etc. the Comics are awesome but they aren’t really what I was looking for.

One can dream for “Meet The Team” equivalent vids for DB mercs…

One day… one day…

He’s gonna need a lot of voice changers then.

Well, for the mercs we don’t at the moment have backstories. We did in the past, but it’s questionable as to how canon they still are. They could have easily retconed those and are making some new ones. But, if you’re curious about those, you could still find them at Dirty Bomb’s Wikia.
dirtybomb.wikia.com/wiki/Dirty_Bomb_Wiki

But regarding their motivation, it’s clearly money. They are mercenaries employed by the two factions in-game, Jackal and CDA, via a middle man which is MercServ. But as to why the two factions fight over the ruins of London, we didn’t yet get a clear answer.

As for the bomb, all we know is that it went off in London, maybe because of a terrorist attack or maybe because of some conspiracy stuff. Timewise it probably went off on the 12th of September in 2018 (judging by the last Underground service update at the first attacker spawn point of Vault), and we do as well know that the mercs started their services on 2020, and currently with the two big story events (Rogue En Vogue and Shellshock) two years have passed lorewise.

I do as well have a headcanon of my own that Sparks never actually went to med school, and is just pretending that she knows what she’s doing. Considering the backstory we had for her, it’s a possibility.

CDA is hauling gold out in shipping containers.

Jackal is also trying to blow the GH London HQ (the final part of that plan is Chapel where they either do or dont) and also trying to steal their drug samples (In shellshock comic 2 you can see GH pain relief meds, maybe GH is a side job for Jackall good money in prototype medicine (Bridge)). Jackal also tries to flood CDA’s base of operation on Underground (the announcer says something about flooding their nest or smth) [On a side not could GH be a DB name for Galaxo SmithKline? Much like Timik = AK47]

Something else i picked up from the comic, Jackal wants to fly their blimp out of London, but there’s an energy shield over the area and AA guns, so Dome is the final part of at least a 4 mission string:

First on Dockyard they steal the holodrive (like in the comic). That gives them the map. Then they go to the upcoming Castle map to disable the core control, and then on Vault they steal the two backup power cores. Finally on Dome they get the override codes to the shield pylon, disable it and then destroy the AA guns, and the blimp is free.

I was meaning to make a map lore thread trying to figure it out from the information in game and snippets, how the story goes (inspired by vaatividya’s incredible work on Dark Souls) but its hard getting the story together due to the randomness in map selection (it doesnt follow any sequence)

Although this is all good lore info that I appreciate you shared, it’s not exactly the clear answer I meant. While we know what they are doing, to some degree, we don’t exactly know why they are doing it.
I guess, we can speculate, but honestly we won’t get a definite answer that way. But I’m sure that the writer who writes the story of Dirty Bomb, will at some point reveal all these details. I just hope we won’t get a ‘good guy, bad guy’ kind of story out of this. I would rather prefer a ‘grey area, everyone’s a scumbag kind of story’, and I even feel like it would fit DB better.

Cold hard cash  Well the mercs at least. CDA is keeping the contaminated area secure as it obviously contains valuable buildings. A bank with the gold on Vault and GH research facilities on Bridge and Chapel. And Jackal is trying to nick stuff, presumably for money.

I’d too prefer it if it was grey morality story, and i think it is…
